2014 is Year of the Horse

Chinese New Year:  2014 is Year of the Horse

Happy Chinese New Year!!  January 31st officially starts the Year of the Horse.

This is what you can expect for Year of the Horse:

Welcome to the Year of the Horse, a very special sign in its own right. The Horse has a connection with Tai Yang (Chinese for sun) as well as Yang, or male energy, one of the two primal forces of the universe. Of the five elements, Wood is the most favorable for the Horse, and 2014 is also a Wood year. This is good for luck in general. So go ahead and take chances. The time is right. However, the Year of the Horse emphasizes thinking things through before you take action — no leaping before you look. This year, there are plenty of areas that hold great opportunities, including (but not limited to) travel, the great outdoors, fitness and your social life.

Generally, that sounds pretty promising.  I happen to be born in the year of the Horse, so although its my year, apparently it will be filled with ups and downs.   Oh well, every year is full of highs and lows.  I definitely have some travel coming up –  Las Vegas next week and Florida in March. I guess we all just have to be a bit cautious…no jumping off the cliff unless you know there is a safe place to land this year.  If you don’t know what animal you are — Tiger, Pig, Rat, etc in Chinese astrology then click here to discover what this year holds for your animal sign.

And of course, the new year wouldn’t be complete without a new Polyvore set in honour of the Year of the Horse!!  Enjoy!

Canadiana Style…….eh!

On this special long weekend as we honour Canada, I started to think about what represents Canada in interior design and what are those iconic symbols that automatically screams CANADA to tourists.

Pinterest is my favourite place to look up images and so I created a Pinterest board aptly called “Canadiana Style…..Eh! Here are some of my favourites that showcase what a beautiful nation we live in!

September Socials

I love the month of September..not only because fall is coming and its always a time of rejuvenation but because of the great Interior Design Social Events that start happening.  And you know me……gotta always be in the middle of all the action!  Flirt female

Tonight I attended AYA Kitchen Design Party and was surrounded by utter kitchen lust.  If you are considering a kitchen renovation than call me so we can head on over to AYA Kitchens together.

Tomorrow I am attending a breakfast at Holt Renfrew given by KORHANI Home to hear about their upcoming collaborations, upcoming holiday collection and a sneak peak into spring 2012 trends.  Korhani makes chic but affordable rugs for your home – inside & out!

I absolutely adore this rug from their Limited Edition Korhani Runway collection—how GLAM is that!!!  It’s called Burlesque No. 4 – Blue – Cream.

Then I’m off to the Toronto Fall Home Show for a fun Tweet-up mingling and tweeting with Toronto’s top home, interior design, renovation and decor friends and bloggers.   Can’t wait!

But right now I’m feeling a bit nostalgic for this time last year.  On September 21, 2011 I went down to NYC with approx. 100 ++ Design Bloggers from all over North America to be in the audience of the Nate Berkus Show.  And it was a jam-packed 24 hours.  Click HERE to read all about my adventure this day last year!!

Can’t wait to keep you caught up on more exciting social events for the rest of the season!!  Have a great day!!

Here is just a sneak peak at some of the things I will be up to for the next week!!

Tuesday

Arrive in San Francisco and head to the Fairmont Heritage Place Hotel, Ghiradelli Square for our first night!!

Wednesday

The rest of the afternoon will be spent  touring 3 wineries:

  • Ledson Winery for a tasting and lunch
  • Chateau St. Jean for a reserve tasting
  • Deerfield Ranch Winery for a cave tasting

And the greatest thing ever is that we’ve hired a driver to take us around our chosen wine tours for our 2 day stay in Sonoma/Napa Valley….so the hubby and I can just relax and taste all the wine we want without having to worry about drinking and driving!!!

We get back to the Inn around 3:30 because then we have a Couples Wine and Roses Spa package booked for 4:30 pm!!  A perfect way to end a day of hectic wine tasting….with more wine, wine and wine….oh and of course dinner later!!!

Thursday

Today is a jam-packed day full of wine tours.  Here are the wineries we will be visiting:

  • 10:00am: Pickup @ The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn
  • 10:45am: Rubicon Estate ..walk–in—self guided tasting/tour (this winery is owned by Francis Ford Coppola!)

And then the rest of the day will be spent shopping!!!  Can’t wait!!!!

Saturday

Today will be a full day of sight-seeing.  We will be doing an Alcatraz / San Francisco city Tour….so this day should be alot of fun!!!

Alcatraz Island is a 25-acre island located just 1 1/4-miles from San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf. Alcatraz is best known as the infamous and notorious former federal prison – home to the likes of Al Capone, George “Machine Gun” Kelley, and Robert “The Birdman” Stroud. From 1933 to 1963, the Federal Bureau of Prisons used the facility as a maximum security prison. It was closed in 1963 due to its expense. Today Alcatraz swarms with tourists — about a million a year.

Here are some of the sights we will enjoy during our 3 1/2 hour tour of San Francisco City:

Ok…my feet are already hurting just thinking about this full day.  Think I need a glass of wine!!

Sunday

This day will hopefully be a bit more relaxing!!  We will be heading to the first-ever ELLE DECOR Showhouse—a spectacularly renovated 4,500-square-foot home in the historic St. Francis neighborhood— which promises to be a GLAM sensation. This house was created in partnership with the Junior League of San Francisco.

Then we will take a drive up the coast and be spontaneous the remainder of the day!!

Monday

We check out and sadly leave the beautiful city of San Francisco.  But I know by this day I will by dying to see my 2 little glamour girls back in Canada!!!

Anyway, I will be blogging daily starting next Tuesday about my trip to San Francisco with ALOT more detail.  Hope you are looking forward to it as much as I am looking forward to getting on that jet plane tonight!!

Ciao for now!!!!!

Today I’m a guest over at Staci Edwards Blog!!

I’m so excited to be guest blogging today on Staci Edward’s blog for her new feature called “Favourite Interior Tuesdays.”  And I can’t wait to share with you my favourite interior designed by Melissa Warner from Massucco Warner Miller, a design trio of friends.

Her West Hollywood apartment was featured in House Beautiful magazine earlier this year and I absolutely love it because it is so GLAM….or as I like to say, it is a “Glam Slam” in interior design.  If I was single and living on my own this is just the style – modern and glamorous – that I would want for my apartment.

So please go take a look at:  Staci Edwards’ Blog

GlamaMama hangin’ with Steven & Chris

That’s right….I’ve become a Design Show groupie…..attending the taping of different design shows as an audience member!!  Last month it was the Nate Berkus Show and this month it was the Steven and Chris design show….good Canadian boys!! 🙂  What can I say….I love my Design Shows!!

The audience consisted of various Design, Lifestyle and Mommy Bloggers..a great audience made up of all women except for 1 token male screaming and applauding for one of the cutest gay design couples in Canada!!

Check us all out at the taping of the show on October 19th, 2010

Apparently Chris is not a DIYer (like me) so he stayed backstage while Steven showcased his DIY segment — How to create two beautiful and rich looking memento frames  — easy and inexpensive to create!  Here is the end result!!

Click here for instructions on completing this DIY project (Photo Credit)

Jenny McCarthy was their special guest — gorgeous and oh so skinny!!  She talked about her new book “Love, Lust & Faking It: The Naked Truth About Sex, Lies, and True Romance”.   Sounds like there are quite a few naughty bits in this book….so I MUST read it!!

Chef Rodney Bowers made his infamous Pulled Pork on air….and let me tell you….it was delish.  How do I know it was delish?  Well, after the show, the producers put together a luncheon for all the bloggers with Steven and Chris.  That was a nice surprise.  Click here to get the recipe for Rodney’s Pulled Pork sandwich….look how good it looked!!

Now of course, I can’t forget the token picture of I with Steven and Chris…the 3 of us look so glamorous together.

You can watch the Steven and Chris show on CBC at 2pm Monday to Friday!!

If you can’t get enough of Steven and Chris, NOW you can have them in your living room, on your ceiling, on your bed and even on your dining room table!!!!  Whaaaaat???  Get your mind out of the gutter…..I’m talking about their Steven and Chris furniture line, decorative accessories, lighting, bedding and now WINE!!!  Here are a few sneak peaks at everything Steven and Chris!!

P.S.  My name wasn’t on the original Steven and Chris invite list that went out to the blogger attendees so I was a guest of  my friend Tamara from Wonder Moms.  That is why my blog isn’t on the blogger list outlined on their website.  Hopefully they add it on. 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving — What I’m thankful for this year!

It’s the Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday, October 11th..and you know what that means….lots of turkey, family around the table and time to contemplate what I am thankful for this year!!

So here is my list of what I am thankful for this year!!!

1)  The love of my family and friends:

Thank you to my wonderful husband who continues to support me in my continuing adventure of being a sole entrepreneur in the interior design world!!   Thank you to my 2 beautiful little girls who always make me laugh and keep me feeling like I’m 29!!!  Thank you to my inner circle of friends who constantly support me through personal and professional endeavours!!

2)  The power of Social Media — without it, many of the opportunities I have experienced so far this year would not have happened:

Twitter:  Thank you for allowing me to ‘meet’ some of the most fascinating people from all over the globe and make it feel like I am having a cup of coffee in the same room with them.  Thank you for introducing me to a group of local women (you know who you are) who continuously empower & support each other to grow as women and help grow their respective businesses.  Thank you for introducing me to a world of interior design bloggers — my education in the design industry is never-ending and I love it!!

Facebook:  Thank you for allowing me to stay in touch with friends from my past that I don’t see anymore and allowing me to meet new friends with common interests!

3)  Thanks to my clients who invited me into their homes and constantly inspire me to create beautiful interiors for their homes and businesses.

4) And last, and this may sound weird, but I want to thank “Courage.”  Without courage, I wouldn’t have started my own interior decorating company or started writing a blog this past summer or contemplated launching my own online interior decorating show.  Starting a second career is scary but “Courage” helped me get through that scary phase and now I am having a blast!!!

5)  And a special thank you for reading my blog!!

I hope you and your family have a wonderful thanksgiving!!!  xoxo

From Runway to Home: Going Wild for Leopard Print

Hurray…the fashion gods are telling us that Leopard Print is back for Fall 2010!!!   Well, guess what….in my book, leopard print never left!!!!   I love animal prints, especially leopard print in clothing and I have quite a few pieces in my closet to prove it!!  For me, it’s a classic style that will never just be a “trend” for one season….just like purple (but that is an entirely different future blog).   For interior design & decor, the leopard print is a bold pattern that is eye catching and both classic and contemporary depending on how you use it. It can be added to any room for a bit of animalistic style.  But just as you wouldn’t over-do it in clothing…the same rule applies for interior decor.

So let’s play a game and look at a few gorgeous pieces of leopard clothing hot off the designer runways for Fall 2010 and see how we can transpose it into home decor!

One stunning leopard coat = 4 unforgettable dining chairs…love the eclectic look of this dining room with the area rug and the funky artwork. I would definitely wear that coat to a dinner party in that dining room!!  J

I sooo, sooo, soooo want this little leopard bootie from Christian Louboutin, but that little leopard vessel sink takes my breath away.  Imagine putting this in a small chic powder room…I swear your guests would never leave!!

The 1950’s sweater look paired with this stunning leopard coat is simple but yet so sexy.  But so is this simple brown velvet settee accented with sexy leopard print cushions!!  Va-Va-Voom!!!  What a way to make a statement!

The right accessory can make or break an outfit or the look of a room.  These 2 accessories can do no wrong.  Gucci and Philippe Starck are gods in the design world.  So yes, I will take one of each please!!!

But before I leave you, let’s quickly talk about the Big NO-NO when wearing or using Leopard print in your home decor….and that is OVERKILL!!        It’s ok to mix leopard with other patterns and textures…just puh-lease DON’T dress yourself or your room from head-to-toe leopard.  It’s just sooooo gauche!!
