One Room Challenge: ManCave Garage Reveal

Hurray…….it’s finally time for my One Room Challenge ManCave Garage reveal.  But first let me clarify a few things first if you are new to the Decor by Christine website & blog:

  1. I am an interior decorator/designer and I normally do pretty & glamorous design projects. Yes, that means I do kitchen & bath renovations and  I decorate homes with beautiful furniture & accessories.  My clients are usually married women with busy lives & kids that need to revamp their home after years of having a beige & blah home.  This is what I do…..I infuse colour, pattern and style into their home…..and they are ecstatic afterwards!
  2. This is my first time participating in the One Room Challenge created by Linda from Calling It Home.  I hope to participate again in Spring 2016 where I can show you a room that really reflects what Decor by Christine is all about.
  3. I have never done a garage or mancave before.  In this case, my husband became my client and Garage Living carried out the renovation….but my husband & I created the vision of what we or should I say HE wanted to have.  Mancaves aren’t really “pretty” so this One Room Challenge is not the usual project you will see on the Calling It Home website full of pretty bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry rooms etc that all the wonderful participants all finished in a mere 6 weeks.  But damn……I am really proud of how this mancave garage turned out!  Oh, and my husband is currently on cloud 9.
  4. You can catch up on Weeks 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 here.
  5. Ok….enough rambling on……now let’s get going on the reveal!  But first…..a quick recap:

The Garage – Before

Do you remember what it looked like?  Here’s a view of the left side of the garage.

And this was the plan that Garage Living created for us after a meeting with them discussing my husband’s needs.

The Garage – After

A Full View of the ManCave Garage

As you can see, we got a full artwall happening here, cabinetry, an area to enjoy a coffee and lots of storage!

The Art Wall

The art gallery on the left wall of the garage is the focal point of the mancave garage.  Here my husband has created  a story of pictures from his motorcycles rides – specifically his trip to Sturgis this past summer.  He also pays homage to the founders of Harley-Davidson with pictures of vintage bikes from the Harley-Davidson Museum.  And of course, his new baby is his Porsche Carrera he got this past spring.  So lots of pictures of Porsche and other beauties.

Miniature little bikes on a shelf:

A gas tank he purchased from E-Bay that echos the large picture of gas tanks from every year that Harley Davidson has been in existence – 112 years old.

Below is a vintage Porsche steering wheel from a 1993 911 we hung as art.  And right below it is a stunning metal art photo of his bike that I got made as a surprise from Posterjack.

And we can’t forget about Sports — specifically baseball with the Toronto Blue Jays.  The large photo is made out of posterboard art also from Posterjack.

Who remembers when the Blue Jays won the world series for the first time…..That’s a classic picture.

The Garage Cafe

To enjoy a lovely cup of freshly ground coffee, we have a lovely bistro table with truly unique bar stools made from replicated motorcycle seats.

We got lots of storage from Garage Living.  We love the butcher block countertop and stainless steel backsplash.  I had a lot of fun styling the counter top with some of my hubby’s fun accessories.

The bar fridge was a little bit too small for the opening so we chose to put it at the side and replace that area with another bar stool (as we purchased 4 of them).

These old Harley-Davidson beer cans were purchased at Aberfoyle Antique Market.  Believe it or not, they are dated 1993 & 1998 and still have the beer inside the can.  Imagine cracking open that can right now –  Ewwwwwwwwwwwww!

The full length cabinets allows us to hide our garbage & recycling bins so the mancave stays neat and clean smelling.

And there is alot of overhead storage for seasonal items.

The Car Lift

Adding in a car lift allowed us to store an extra vehicle in the garage…..and to watch the car rise is really quite awesome.  It’s like a fun elevator with no walls.  So I had to pose beside it of course.

And last but now least…..we can’t forget whose garage this belongs to – Dad.  At least I’ll know where he’s at when I can’t find him.  🙂 Also I’m loving my newly painted black door and new stair railing.

It’s been a crazy 6 weeks trying to get the mancave garage completed…..and wow, are we ever happy with it.  We don’t consider it a garage anymore…..it really is another room of the house.  And we are looking forward to having some friends over for a fresh cup of coffee at The Garage Cafe.

Hope you enjoyed my One Room Challenge, and don’t forget to head over to Calling It Home to see all the other beautifully designed rooms by all participants.  I want to thank Garage Living for the installation of our fabulous new mancave garage & Posterjack for creating some stunning artwork out of our photos for the gallery wall! xoxo

Camera Ready!! CHCH TV Decor Segment

Hi Everyone, So last week I had an opportunity literally fall into my lap via Twitter. An assignment editor for CHCH News in Hamilton tweeted that she needed someone to talk about Christmas decorating Trends – STAT!!

I raised my hand on Twitter and the next day I was filming at Sheridan Nurseries with Lisa Hepfner, a CHCH News Reporter.

You can watch the short segment at this link:  Christmas-decor-red-green-and-aubergine.

Black and silver is hot this season for Christmas tree decorating.  Lots of Glitz and Glamour!!

Fullscreen capture 07112011 112246 PM

Aubergine and chartreuse are still very popular this year.

And one tree is not enough!!  Many families are having 2 to 3 trees in their home.  One for the family room, one “adult” tree and one tree for the kids (i.e.: in their bedroom or playroom)

How adorable are these decorations for a child’s tree.

And forget about tree toppers….they are so passé!!!  Just add extra fullness at the top of the tree.

Christmas is my most favourite season….and I am so looking forward to beginning my holiday decorating.  What about you?

Sarah’s House is Back!!!!

A new season of Sarah’s House begins on Tuesday, October 18th!!  I had a chance to walk through the house that Sarah and Tommy transformed…and it was absolutely stunning!!

Also, Sarah Richardson is seeking lucky homeowners for Season 2 of Sarah 101.  Check out the details below:

Ever dreamed of inviting Sarah into your home and having her re-imagine a room in her signature style? Well, this just might be your chance! Sarah is currently seeking spaces in need of a high style makeover for her hit series, Sarah 101. Is this your dream come true? Here’s how it works:

  • We are seeking motivated individuals who will receive a decorating/design makeover from HGTV’s top design talent, Sarah Richardson and her partner in design, Tommy Smythe.
  • Each makeover will have an approximate value of $10,000 in product and over $15,000 in design services, and will be conducted in a short period of time depending on the scope of work (approx. 2-4 weeks).
  • We are seeking dramatic “befores” as the backdrop for magazine-worthy “afters.”
  • We are looking for adventurous, excited homeowners (or renters with permission from the landlord) who are willing to open their door and invite in one of Canada’s best design teams to treat their home as a blank canvas.
  • We are seeking interesting spaces with loads of character and “great bones”, which can be transformed through re-decoration or light renovation (no extensive structural work), and homeowners willing to share their design adventure on camera.
  • The team will consider your taste and style notes when designing your room, but you may not be consulted on the actual plan or design, so being a fan of Sarah’s style is imperative. Visit www.hgtv.ca/sarah101 to see the spaces transformed in Season 1.
  • The television production will contribute a retail value of $10,000 to your project, and any expenses above the allowed budget will be the responsibility of the homeowner.
  • The TV crew needs to have full, unsupervised access to the room throughout the duration of the project and full co-operation of the homeowner.

Interested? Please fill out an application form at http://www1.primevista.com/submissions/casting-call. We look forward to receiving your application – and don’t forget to attach the pictures! We appreciate all applications but only suitable candidates will be contacted. No phone calls please.

This living room is a GLAM SLAM for so many reasons:

  • Gorgeous blue tufted sofa with gold accent via the cushions
  • The zebra rug — hello, everyone needs some zebra or animal print in their home!
  • Black painted fireplace — how dramatic is that?  Love, love, love it!!
  • Grey painted walls that act as the perfect neutral background for all the exciting furniture and accessories
  • Gorgeous brass lamps with black lampshades
  • Stunning silk drapery framing the large windows
  • The fantastic tub chairs wrapped in that beautiful chinoiserie fabric
  • And last, the lovely glass coffee table.

What do you think?  GLAM SLAM or total SHAM?  Have a great weekend!!

Glamour Friday: Creating a Glamorous Bedroom Retreat with mirrored furniture

As you know, I love all things GLAM – especially a glamorous bedroom.  And one of the easiest ways to create a glamorous bedroom is to add a piece of mirrored furniture into the room.

And it doesn’t have to be over the top.  This Master bedroom belongs to Nancy Corzine may be a bit much for you with all the mirrored furniture….but for me it is a total GLAM SLAM!!

Nancy also wrote a beautiful book called “Glamour at Home” – it’s on my coffee table at home.

This mirrored four-poster bed was inspired by the Chrysler Building.  Wow!!

Really, all you need is one piece of mirrored furniture to add some glam to your bedroom….and these pieces are easily accessible and affordable from West Elm

Parsons Mirror End Table

How about this mirrored end table  at $349.00

Parsons Mirror Console

This gorgeous console table ($549.00) also is going to end up in my client’s living room once I’m finished decorating the main floor of her house.

Faceted Mirror Side Table

This little stool or side table is stunning also….and so is the price at $199.00.

So as you can see, creating a glamorous bedroom is as easy as  saying “mirror, mirror, on the wall – who has the most glamorous room of all?” Flirt female

Hope you all have a glamorous weekend!!

If your home is craving some glamour, then contact me online or in person! I’d love to help!

Glamour Friday: Bathroom Bling!!

If you know me pretty well, than you know how much I love my bling!! Whether it’s a huge cocktail ring on my finger or a sparkly chandelier, everyone needs some bling in their life!!

Well how about a whole lotta bling  in the bathroom – like this Swarovski crystal studded toilet!!  Jemal Wright is the designer who describes this as “the epitome of bathroom couture”.  And it’s only priced at a mere $75,000.00!! Surprised smile

Seriously who buys this stuff??  But apparently there IS a market for over-the-top luxurious items like this blinged out toilet. I am totally into the glam factor in my home….but would I take it this far – hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm???

Don’t think you will find this one at your local Home Depot!!

You must check out Jemal’s website to see other luxurious toilets he has designed.   So what do you think:  Total Glam Slam OR Total Sham!!

If your bathroom is craving some glamour, then contact me online or in person! I’d love to help!

Glamorously yours,

Christine xo

Happy Mother’s Day!!!!

One of the best things that happened to me was when I became a mother to my 2 beautiful glamour girls.  They make me laugh and help me feel continuously young-at-heart!!

Being a mother is not easy, but nothing can take away the joy that children bring into our lives.  So to all mothers out there……..

I wish you a very happy Mother’s Day because you deserve it!!
