Glamour Friday: Jamie Herzlinger

In the latest issue of Dabble Magazine, a gorgeous Arizona home designed by one of my favourite interior designers, Jamie Herzlinger is featured.  And because it is so glamorous, I thought it would be perfect for a Glamour Friday post.

This stunning 19th century Dutch corbeille shaped canapé greets visitors when they walk into this 7000 sq. ft. home.

I love this very glamorous foyer  with neutral grass cloth covered walls, the fabulous marquetry commode and the stunning mirror above it make for a GLAM SLAM!

This living room is so glamorous with all the sumptuous velvets and silks in this room.  And you can never go wrong with decorating in unforgettable plums and purples mixed in with neutral greys. Oh so very elegant!! Love it!

Fullscreen capture 03032012 115609 AM

The master bedroom is very calm and serene decorated in a neutral palette mixed with lots of whites.  I guess the lesson here is that it’s ok to put the bed against a wall of windows when it’s the only way to ensure that the bed remains the focal point of the room.

This sitting area goes extra glam with nail head detail on the chair and ottoman, a large mirror and lots of gold and brass accents.

This home designed by Jamie Herzlinger is truly a luxe retreat!

Glamour Friday: Inside the Kardashian Sisters’ Closets

I readily admit that I do NOT watch “Keeping up with the Kardashians” (or whatever the show is called?) but I will admit that the sisters are pretty glamorous looking.  So I thought we should take a peek into their closets for today’s Glamour Friday post!!!

Kim’s Closet

Kim's Outerwear Collection

Kim's Jewelry Box

Here are some of Kim’s tips on organizing a glamorous closet: “Always use the same style of hangers throughout,” she says. Dresses are arranged long to short, and jackets are sorted by texture. And to create a boutique-like vibe, she likes to “showcase the most beautiful” pieces. She also says to “hide T-shirts in a cupboard or drawer. It’s so hard to keep them nicely folded.” Finally, toss anything that doesn’t fit. “I sell those pieces on eBay and donate the proceeds,” she says.

I do love that stunning chandelier hanging in her closet

I want those leopard print boots!!!

Apparently there are more than 100 pairs of Louboutins between the 3 sister closets – crazy!!

Which closet is your favourite?  Think I’m lusting after Khloe’s closet!!  It’s a Glam Slam for me!!

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Glamour Friday: Creating a Glamorous Bedroom Retreat with mirrored furniture

As you know, I love all things GLAM – especially a glamorous bedroom.  And one of the easiest ways to create a glamorous bedroom is to add a piece of mirrored furniture into the room.

And it doesn’t have to be over the top.  This Master bedroom belongs to Nancy Corzine may be a bit much for you with all the mirrored furniture….but for me it is a total GLAM SLAM!!

Nancy also wrote a beautiful book called “Glamour at Home” – it’s on my coffee table at home.

This mirrored four-poster bed was inspired by the Chrysler Building.  Wow!!

(source)

Really, all you need is one piece of mirrored furniture to add some glam to your bedroom….and these pieces are easily accessible and affordable from West Elm

Parsons Mirror End Table

How about this mirrored end table  at $349.00

Parsons Mirror Console

This gorgeous console table ($549.00) also is going to end up in my client’s living room once I’m finished decorating the main floor of her house.

Faceted Mirror Side Table

This little stool or side table is stunning also….and so is the price at $199.00.

So as you can see, creating a glamorous bedroom is as easy as  saying “mirror, mirror, on the wall – who has the most glamorous room of all?” Flirt female

Hope you all have a glamorous weekend!!

Glamour Friday: A Diva worthy bedroom!

Are you a Diva or a wanna-be diva?  Yes….well then this bedroom is absolutely perfect!!  Pure luxury at its finest…..to me it’s actually dripping of diamonds and furs.  When I saw this bedroom on the website of Style Factory International I thought I had died and gone to Glamour heaven.

Oh yes, I could totally imagine J.Lo, Beyoncé, and Mariah having this bedroom in one of their many homes.

A monochromatic colour scheme always screams glamour and luxury. Although I definitely would have added some aubergine cushions on the bed.  And I totally adore the wing-back style headboard —  perfect for any diva to lounge on.

Fullscreen capture 27052011 120855 AM

Hello gorgeous, where have you been all my life!!  Have you ever seen a chandelier trimmed in feathers.  Utterly Glam-tastic!!  And look, the long rectangular wall mirror is also trimmed in feather.  OMG….I’m feeling faint as I write this.

Fullscreen capture 27052011 121037 AM

What a stunning make-up desk.  If you ever have a large wall space to fill up then use a series of different sized circular mirrors to command attention.  I love it….it adds so much sparkle to the room. And I can’t forget to mention the sophisticated tone-on-tone wallpaper with its chain-link motif.

Fullscreen capture 27052011 121154 AM

How alluring is this night-table with the fur-covered lamp shade – my head is spinning in utter delight.  This bedroom is a GLAM SLAM!!

Fullscreen capture 27052011 121341 AM

This bedroom is from the Visionnaires Collection.  Check out their full catalogue here

Now you may be thinking that this glamorous bedroom is totally impossible for your lifestyle….but I say “NEVER!”  As a whole, yes it may be…but taking pieces of this room and replicating it in your bedroom is not that difficult or impractical.

Option 1:  A upholstered tufted headboard as the main focal point
Option 2:  Said headboard + sparkly chandelier (with or without feathers)
Option 3:  Glitzy chandelier + lots of sparkly mirrors
Option 4:  All of the above!!

Hope you all have a super glamorous weekend!!

Decorate As You Dress — My Coral Coach Purse!!

Happy Monday!!  Hope you all had a super weekend now that Spring weather has finally arrived.  Today I’m launching a new feature on The Glam Blog…..it’s called “Decorate As You Dress.”

It’s really quite simple….every Monday I will feature an article of clothing or accessory that I own and then talk about how I would decorate a room inspired by it’s colour, shape or texture.  And voila…you have ‘Decorate as You Dress!!”

The first “Decorate as You Dress” post is all about my brand new Coral Coach purse I purchased over March break.

IMG_5480

Isn’t it a gorgeous, fresh colour…..it’s so punchy and look how fabulous it looks with leopard print.  Coral/orange and anything leopard print is a definite GLAM SLAM!!

IMG_5477

And look how glorious it looks matched with a Victoria Ghost Chair by Philippe Starck for Kartell.

Now this is how I would decorate a room  based on my coral Coach purse!!

If you love coral, why not go for slip-covered comfy chairs and drapery in a coral & white print offset by turquoise blue.  Now that’s a fantastic colour combination!!

One of the quickest ways to update your home for spring is to add a jolt of colour, like this coral bedding to this bedroom.

I adore this office with its orange arabesque rug, glass-top desk, and natural linen roman shades with orange ribbon trim.  So very chic.  And what about the living room below.  Greys and corals are magnificent together.  The artwork and area rug are both absolutely beautiful and give this room so much personality.

Design by Studio Ten 25

Well, I hope you enjoyed my first “Decorate As You Dress“ post…and I hope my coral coach purse has inspired you to add some lovely coral accents into your home this spring!!

Now if you want to join in on the fun, then you too can be featured in a Decorate as you Dress weekly post.  Just send me a photo of something you love in your closet and (if you are brave)pictures of similar inspired decor OR I will find the decor inspiration for you and blog about it and you in the upcoming weeks.

Have a fabulously glamorous week!!

Glamour Friday: Creating the Perfect Tablescape

One of the things that I most love as an interior decorator is creating tablescapes or vignettes for my clients whether it’s for their foyer, living room or bedroom. (FYI: I will be using the terms vignette & tablescapes interchangeably throughout this blog posting). Vignettes tell a little story about the person who lives there – whether it’s where they have travelled, hobbies they love, their favourite flower or book or just a personal item they love dearly.

However, creating a tablescape does not give you free rein to display all the knick knacks you’ve collected throughout the years at different weddings you may have attended.  As with everything in life….there are rules…well maybe “rules” is too harsh a word…so let’s use “guidelines’ in creating the “perfect” tablescape or vignette.

According to one of my favourite designers, David Jimenez, the king of tablescapes – he suggests the following:

1) Layer and lean framed photographs against the wall.

2) Keep your palette simple–black and white with one hit of color.

3) A tray makes everything richer.

4) Use a vase with a strong silhouette.

As a rule of thumb, these are the items that I like to use when creating a vignette or story for my clients: fresh flowers, books, a tray and a few ( 3 max) decorative items/accessories that mean something to the client.

So to give you an idea of what the “perfect” tablescape should look like…. feast your eyes on these vignettes created by some of my favourite interior designers David Jimenez, Jeffrey Bilhuber, and Miles Redd.

David Jimenez is not only dreamily handsome but he has a gorgeous house to boot. Look at the amazing tablescapes he created in almost every room in his house.

 clip_image004[4]

Love that huge tray on the ottoman…it helps keep all items self-contained and neat!!

clip_image006[4]

clip_image008[4]

Your bedside table shouldn’t be ignored either…trays keep everything neat and within reach!

clip_image010[4]

clip_image012[4]

Don’t count out your bathroom or dressing room for creating a beautiful vignette as the ones above!

clip_image014[4]

This last picture totally summarizes David Jimenez’s guidelines for creating the perfect tablescape!!

And now let’s see Jeffrey Bilhuber’s gorgeous tablescapes – I’ve got one of his books “Defining Luxury” in a tablescape inside my own home.

clip_image016[4] clip_image018[4]

Please tell me you are noticing a common theme here — Fresh flowers, stacked books AND NO knick knacks!!!

clip_image019[4] clip_image021[4]

Whether your home is ultra glamorous or farmhouse chic….the same guidelines apply!!!

These next 2 tablescapes are from Miles Redd who creates stunning and oh-so glam interior designs. Below are 2 of my favourite tablescapes: so simple, yet very impactful!

clip_image023[4] clip_image025[4]

And last but not least here is one of my all time favourite foyer tablescapes that I have mimicked in my own home….and yes, it’s by the one and only Kimberley Seldon!! It just screams pure luxury and glamour to me every time I see this picture!!

clip_image027[4]

Well, I think I have hammered home what the perfect tablescape looks like! If I could, I would give you all a quiz right now on what items create the “perfect” tablescape…but since I can’t…here is your homework assignment: using the guidelines discussed…create your own tablescape/vignette/story and then post it in the comment section for all of us to see!!!

Good luck!! xoxo

Glamour Friday: A sexy & glamorous bedroom = GLAM SLAM!!

Happy Friday!! Thought I would show off a gorgeous cozy bedroom this week since it’s been a combination of snow and rain all this week.  Brrrrrrrr!!! Storm cloud

This beautiful bedroom is from the latest issue of Lonny Magazine.  “A bedroom should be all about comfort, sexiness and glamour” say the designers of this room…and I couldn’t agree more

I’m loving the grey grasscloth wallpaper that adds such a lovely warm sheen to the walls.  And then of course the focal point of the room is the very sexy and curvy custom made headboard with nail head detailing.  Now that is yummy!!

The glamorous silver lamps with  chocolate shades and the Greek- key custom night tables make this room a definite GLAM SLAM!!  What do you think?

P.S.  Have a great weekend.  Don’t forget to put your clocks one hour ahead on Sunday AND please say a prayer for the victims and their families of the Tsunami in Japan.

Glamour Friday: Gorgeous Living Room by Designer Evelyn Chin

I discovered Evelyn Chin’s interior design website quite by accident as I was researching for my usual Glamour Friday post.  Her design philosophy really hit home with me “My spaces stimulate the senses….give an element of surprise and fun…..expand the imagination.”

Yes, every room should be functional especially a living or family room….but why not add some fun or an element of surprise to your home decor.

This can all be created by adding in colour, texture and pattern very much like the living room below!!  Every piece in this room complements each other….and of course the room is PURPLE!!

Look at the architectural details on the ceiling – panelled moulding add visual interest while the shocking colour of lilac when you look up becomes a visual experience to the senses.

Mixing patterns and textures creates a very glamorous and exciting room. Love mixing stripes and florals together!!

Design Lesson:  Normally your biggest investment piece is your sofa – buy good quality in a neutral colour and it will last for many many years!  You’ll notice here that her classic tufted sofa is in a beautiful neutral shade of grey.

Velvet plush stools, a tall shiny mirror leaning against the wall versus being hung and mirrored end tables (previous picture) all add that touch of glamour to any room!

Lilac walls,, panelled moulding and the cutest little reading nook with a ton of cushions to cuddle into…..Red heartRed heartRed heart

Creating a glamorous room in your home doesn’t mean you have to add purple or have an identical room as the ones above…just don’t be afraid to use colour, texture or pattern to your room – even if its just one piece!!

If your living room is craving some glamour, then contact me online or in person!  I’d love to help!

Glamour Friday: Dita Von Teese at Home

The latest issue of InStyle Magazine features Burlesque Showgirl Dita Von Teese in her home devoted to vintage glamour. And WOW, is it ever.  She’s obsessed with flamboyant walls (flocked velvet wallpaper junkies will be excited), taxidermy (!), ornate lighting and art deco furniture.

Her silver silk headboard is a major GLAM SLAM!!!  But I am definitely ooohhhhhhing and aaaahhhhing over Dita’s dressing room with an original mirrored vanity from the 1940’s while everything else in the room is brand new.  I love mixing old and new pieces together as it gives a room so much more substance and style.

Vintage car and art deco furniture in the living room – BUT I’m not going to discuss the stuffed monkey – apparently all her animals died of natural causes (thank god!).

And how adorable is her pink kitchen with the checkerboard flooring

Late for Nate!

Well, the party don’t start till I walk in!!!!

Yea, I know….I’m over a month late in honouring Nate Berkus for his #NateDay organized by the lovely Moggit Girls over at www.moggit.com on Twitter.  But hey, better late then never, and frankly I’m just getting into the swing of this whole blogging phenomenon thingy!  I’ve decided to highlight 5 of his rooms that I consider to be Interior Design “Glam Slams.”

So anyway, here is my homage to that sweet looking interior designer Nate Berkus intermingled with a few of my Nate fantasies.

This stunning living room has all the ingredients of a glamorous room: a tufted sofa, leopard print and animal skin….ohh and a gorgeous lucite coffee table.  I can imagine having fabulous cocktails parties with Nate in this room, as all our guests whisper that we are the “It couple.”

no images were found

After all our guests leave, Nate and I would head into the library for a quick nightcap.  This room is so cozy with its dark walls, piles of books and gorgeous sofa and chair to snuggle in with Nate.  The Art Wall is my favourite…love the look of mismatched frames…it gives the room personality versus looking so formal.

This ulta glamorous bedroom is one of my favourite rooms by Nate.  The colour scheme is calming & soothing and the entire feel of this room is pure luxury — the white uphostered headboard, the slipper chairs, the mirror top brass table, the vintage chandelier and the modern lucite bench!!!  Swoon, swoon!!  And of course, Nate would bring me breakfast in bed and then we — the super couple — would lounge in bed for the entire morning!!!  (the rest of this fantasy is NSFW)

no images were found

Nate would then run a bath for me in this beautiful marble bath and hand me a glass of champagne…that gorgeous Venitician mirror above the bath was a gift from Nate to me…..what a lucky girl I am!!!

no images were found

I just love the dressing room Nate designed especially for me…with its vintage Baguès chandelier and my custom built dresing table with vintage ostrich-egg lamps…all my clothes are within easy reach!   But now, I must get ready for another fun-filled evening with my sweetie-pie Nate!  Ciao xoxo!

If you’re looking to dial up the glam quotient in your home then contact me  via my website for an online or in-person consultation.
