Friday Favs – new series

Happy Friday!  I’m starting a new weekly series called Friday Favs.  I’ve been thinking about this for ages as there are so many great things I see and read throughout the week.  So every Friday I’m going to share my Friday Favs which could be about interior design, fashion, seasonal stuff…..anything goes.

Today’s post is all about fashion…..specifically about a new subscription box that I discovered, fell in love with and ordered.  And no, this is not a sales pitch…..I just love getting a box of goodies in the mail every 3 months and want to share it with you.  Rachel Zoe is a California based fashion designer and stylist to many celebrities in Hollywood.  She also has a great newsletter called the Zoe Report for update-to-date news on all the fashion trends and styles you need to know about.  And she has Box of Style.   To better explain exactly what it is…..I will quote how they describe Rachel Zoe’s Box of Style on their website:

“Imagine getting a sleek box containing over $350 worth of products hand-selected by Rachel Zoe and The Zoe Report editors delivered right to your door—sounds too good to be true, right? Consider your stars aligned, because that’s exactly what you get when you spend just $100 on a Box of Style. Bringing Rachel’s unparalleled sense of glamour to the masses, this coveted subscription box ships seasonally—that’s four times annually—and is filled with an expertly styled assortment of fashion, beauty and lifestyle obsessions that’ll keep you looking and feeling chic year-round.”

When I saw what was included in the fall Box of style, I had to order it.  This is what I got last week in the mail.  How chic is this box! I was so excited……it felt like Christmas morning!

Fall Box of Style

And what was inside made me jump for joy!  This image is from their Instagram page and summarizes the contents of the box….you can see each piece here.

box of style items

Every box has a hero item, and in the fall box of style it was this gorgeous colour blocked cape by Donni Charm.  When I saw it I had to have it……and of course everything else inside!

donni charm cape

Isn`t it gorgeous? I knew I could wear this cape throughout the cold fall and winter months.  And because there are so many fashionable ways to wear this cape, I decided to `model` 3 different looks on how to style the cape and the beautiful leather tassel cinch belt that also came in the box.  This is me pretending to be a fashion blogger 😉

Look 1:

I`m wearing the cape casually loose around the shoulders – which is how I wear it most of the time around the house.  I took the belt and used it as a choker for some added panache!

Look 1 fall box of style

They actually reposted this picture from my instagram page…how fabulous is that! LOL!

Look 2:

For an effortless look, just wrap the tassel belt around the cape…..for a very chic ensemble.

Look 3:

Here, I wrapped the cape around my neck as a cozy scarf.  Then I got my daughter to wrap the belt around my wrist as a very cool bracelet.  Perfect for chilly mornings walking my doggie.

(These 3 looks were photographed by my budding photographer daughter)

The Winter Box of Style is getting ready to ship in December.  They showed us a sneak peek of  the hero product and it is this stunning necklace!

So that`s it……my first Friday Favs blog post.  Hope you enjoyed it.  Have a great weekend!!!!

Decorate As You Dress with Butterflies

Happy Tuesday! It seems like a good day for a Decorate as you Dress blog post. And today is Decorate as you dress with Butterflies!

I’m a wallpaper junkie and when a client asks me how they can update one of their rooms I always recommend wallpaper as an option. As I search the internet for decorating inspiration, I’ve noticed a lot of rooms with pretty butterfly wallpaper. And then when I was checking out the latest Fashion arrivals on the ChicWish website I saw this fabulous butterfly skirt…and voila my Decorate as you Dress with butterflies post came to life.

Decorate as you dress with butterflies - Decor by Christine

That adorable Beauty of Nature skirt is from ChicWish and its currently on sale. This fabulous wallpaper is called Birds & Butterflies by F. Schumacher & Co.

I think this Butterfly wallpaper would look lovely in a child or teenager’s bedroom as shown below.

Even a small dining area works well with this paper.
This fabulous feminine laundry room has been everywhere on the internet from Pinterest to Instagram….and this is one way to make a statement in your laundry room.  Who wouldn’t want to fold clothes in this pretty room.
See how easy it is to decorate as you dress.  If you need to infuse some of your own personal style into your home, but are having difficulty putting it all together, than please contact me for a consultation.

My Spring 2014 must-have: the tulle skirt

Spring 2014 must have – the tulle skirt!

Happy Friday Blog Friends!  All the cold weather is making me anxious for spring.  With spring thoughts I always start thinking of fashion so I created this style board on Polyvore — my newest obsession & time waster – but it is so much fun.  I am so coveting a tulle skirt for spring 2014.  And I am loving the colour combination of navy & pink — so fresh and young-looking and totally girly-glam.  Perfect in fashion and in your home decor.

It’s also kind of reminiscent of Carrie Bradshaw in #SATC — how I miss that show.  Anyhoo, have you tried Polyvore yet?  Are you ready for spring as much as I am?  It’s Friday, and I am so ready for the weekend!!  Hope you have a great one!!

On Our Radar – Back to School Plaid!

Helloooooo Stranger!!! Hope you all had a fabulous summer. Sadly it flew by and it already feels like autumn chilly weather.

This morning I took 2 beautiful girls to school — one going into Grade 6 and the youngest going into Grade 1! It is a big day for Mya. Here they are all bright-eyed and in their new back to school fashions.

Fall is my most favourite season and even though I’m not going back to school, this time of year always gets me excited for fashion. If I WAS going back to school, this is what would be on my fashion radar — Plaid! I absolutely adore these ensembles from Tommy Hilfiger’s Fall 2013 Ready to Wear Collection.

Plaid, argyle, houndstooth, herringbone patterns……I’m loving it all for fall!!

Hope you all had a great first day of school/work and we will be back to a regular blogging schedule as of tomorrow!

Glamorously yours,

Christine xoxo

Decorate As You Dress: Spring 2013 Decorating Trends

It’s finally starting to feel like spring, so if you haven’t started your spring decorating than now is the time to start.   And what better way to do that then to start with the fashion runways.  I’ve identified 5 key decorating trends that you can take into your home this season but it’s so much more fun when we add a fashion mix to it.  I went onto one of my favourite websites called Fashion + Decor and found fashion & room pairings to match my recommended spring 2013 trends.  So let’s get started:

1. Bold Colour

Stella McCartney Spring 2013 RTW and House to Home

Just by adding some emerald green (Pantone‘s 2013 colour of the year) into your wardrobe and home will totally put you on trend this season.  If green isn’t your colour then any other bright colour will do.  Promise.

Elie Saab Spring 2013 RTW and High Point Market

Chanel Spring 2013 RTW and House Beautiful

Alice + Olivia Spring 2013 RTW and Elle Decor

Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2013 RTW and Design Legacy

2. Florals

Every year it seems like florals are on trend for spring…..and why not, flowers to me scream spring time.  Its the interpretation that may be different each year.  Depending on your personality you can go big and bold with florals – like the wallpapers below or the floral sofa…..or as discreetly as you want with just a few toss cushions on your favourite neutral sofa or fresh flowers in a beautiful vase.  Anyway you like it…..just add some florals!!

Chanel Spring 2013 RTW and Lonny Magazine

Alice + Olivia Spring 2013 RTW and Elle Decor

Marc Jacobs Spring 2013 RTW and Jeffrey Alan Marks

Peter Som Spring 2013 RTW and Architectural Digest

3.  Black & White

Anything black & white is so hot right now….whether its colour blocking, stripes, polka dots….in your closet and in your home!!

Marc Jacobs Spring 2013 RTW and High Point Market

Chanel Spring 2013 RTW and High Point Market

Celine Resort 2013 and Elle Decor

Louis Vuitton Spring 2013 RTW and Elle Decor

4.  Plenty of Pattern

If you love pattern, then this is your lucky season because pattern is every where — whether subtle or in your face…its here to stay! Oh, and don’t be afraid to mix up your patterns – the more the merrier.

Marc Jacobs Spring 2013 RTW and Elle Decor

Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2013 RTW and Lonny Magazine

Billy Reid Spring 2013 RTW and Elle Decor

5.  Gold Rush

Want to raise the glam factor in your wardrobe and your home?   Then just add GOLD!!  Whether it is shiny or matte….the value of gold has just gone up!!

Zuhair Murad Spring 2013 Couture and Kelly Wearstler

Carolina Herrera Spring 2013 RTW and Decor Pad

Jenny Packham Spring 2013 RTW & Theodore Alexander

Burberry Prorsum Spring 2013 RTW and Elle Decor

Rachel Zoe Resort 2013 and Lonny Magazine

And just because I can, I had to include a dash of leopard print.  Every home should have at least one piece of animal print and this glamorous room just reflects my feelings on this matter.  So gorgeous!!!  It really does make me swoon!!

Peter Som Spring 2013 and Paper City Magazine

If you love the clothes in your closet then why shouldn’t that style or colour be reflected in your home? If you’ve got great style…so should your home!”    If you are having difficulty figuring out your style, then please contact me here for a 2 hour consultation so we can get you started.  Have a wonderful day!

Decorate As You Dress: Emerald Green

Bye bye Tangerine Tango!!  Last week, Pantone, the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries announced PANTONE® 17-5641 Emerald, a lively, radiant, lush green, as the Color of the Year for 2013.

Most often associated with brilliant, precious gemstones, the perception of Emerald is sophisticated and luxurious. Since antiquity, this luminous, magnificent hue has been the color of beauty and new life in many cultures and religions. It’s also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity – no other color conveys regeneration more than green. For centuries, many countries have chosen green to represent healing and unity.

A couple of weeks ago I was at an event with a couple of my designer BFFs and we were talking about what Pantone`s colour would be for 2013 – and we all guessed Green.  We have seen a lot of it on the fashion runways and in home decor – so it really wasn’t a huge surprise.

Since fashion and home decor intersect so closely, this is what pantone had to say about utilizing Emerald Green in fashion and in the home.

Emerald for Fashion:

The prevalence of green has been steadily rising for several seasons, especially in the fashion and couture markets, and even on the red carpet. Appropriate for every occasion, Emerald’s classic elegance makes for striking and irresistible women’s formal and everyday wear as well as accessories. Emerald also makes a strong statement in men’s sportswear, knitwear and ties.

PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR 2013 - Emerald 17-5641

Emerald for Interiors:

Enhance your sense of well-being at home by rejuvenating the interior with Emerald paint, accents and accessories. This jewel-like hue will create a luxurious feel in an entryway, powder room, dining room or study, and bring life to a living room as an accent wall. Add a splash of color to the kitchen and dining room areas with Emerald dinnerware, stemware and appliances.

Yesterday I went for a manicure and this is what I got done.  I thought it was a lot of fun – perfect for the holidays and I`m sure it would be Pantone approved!

I`m not crazy about going overboard with the green, but I do love the colour combinations of blue & green and green and pink….very girly!

Here are some images to inspire you and get you in the mood for emerald green in 2013.
