There are lots of exciting things happening this weekend for me. Tomorrow I am headed to Blogpodium — Canada’s Conference for Design and Lifestyle Bloggers. It is a series of ongoing conferences and small workshops designed to connect people together, encourage collaboration and sharing, and of course, have a great time. I love seeing old blogger friends that I don’t get to see very often, and of course meeting new ones!
Besides meeting up with some amazing design and lifestyle bloggers, Sarah Richardson is the Keynote speaker tomorrow.
Her new show launched yesterday on HGTV Canada — its called Real Potential and airs Thursday nights. Sarah is also launching a new fabric line with Kravet — one of the fabric suppliers I use with my clients. Below is clip from her new show.
Then on Sunday I am on stage at the Ideal Home Show in Hamilton. I will speaking at 3pm on my top 3 Fall/Winter Decorating Trends.
Also from noon until 2:30 I will be at the Free Pro-Advice Pavillion. At the Free Pro Advice Pavilion, you will have one on one session with professionals in the field of interior design, real estate, and organizational designer and home contractors. You can bring in your pictures, fabrics, inspiration boards and napkin drawings and you will leave with priceless ideas and sketches from the pros. So if you have a design dilemna, then pop on by and hopefully one of us design pros can help you out.
And one last thing, I wanted to announce the winner of the PosterJack giveaway that I blogged about on Easy Dorm Room Art Ideas. The Winning comment was from Sheila Zeller. Congratulations Sheila — I will email you the promo code to use on their website.
So what plans do you have for the weekend? Maybe I will see you at Blogpodium or the Ideal Home Show!! Have a super weekend!
Tomorrow I leave for NYC to attend BlogFest 2012, the second annual New York City design event hosted by Kravet Inc. that brings together editors from top design and lifestyle magazines, great brands and A-list industry designers and celebrities.
Below are just some of the celebrity designers and influencers I will hopefully meet and get a picture with!!
Thom Filicia, Designer
Margaret Russell, EIC of Architectural Digest
And I will be checking out the ICFF Show and the Kips Bay Show House — two key design events that happen in May each year in NYC that I have never attended!
It’s going to be a jam packed 4 days of networking, social events and meeting a ton of design bloggers I admire but haven’t met in real life. So it should be lots of fun.
I promise to blog all about it upon my return next week!!
Have you RSVP’d for Thursday’s Urban Barn seminar at the Oakville store? I feel like such a celebrity as it is being hailed as a “Meet + Greet with Design Blogger Christine Da Costa in Oakville.” Tee Hee!!!!
Tomorrow I will talk about my inspiration behind the custom chair I designed for the Custom Chairity Competition, as well as tips for ordering custom furniture and answer questions from the crowd. Space is limited so RSVP early!
Also, you will receive 15% off all custom furniture during this event! Sale ends on March 11th. Urban Barn also has a special promotion during this event: Buy one regular priced cushion and receive a second cushion free with purchase!
And if you haven’t voted for my chair yet, please do so by clicking here!! My chair is currently in 2nd place and I need at least 100 more votes to push into first place. So please pretty please vote for my chair and pass it around to your Facebook friends so they can vote to!!!!
I love the month of September..not only because fall is coming and its always a time of rejuvenation but because of the great Interior Design Social Events that start happening. And you know me……gotta always be in the middle of all the action!
Tonight I attended AYA Kitchen Design Party and was surrounded by utter kitchen lust. If you are considering a kitchen renovation than call me so we can head on over to AYA Kitchens together.
Tomorrow I am attending a breakfast at Holt Renfrew given by KORHANI Home to hear about their upcoming collaborations, upcoming holiday collection and a sneak peak into spring 2012 trends. Korhani makes chic but affordable rugs for your home – inside & out!
I absolutely adore this rug from their Limited Edition Korhani Runway collection—how GLAM is that!!! It’s called Burlesque No. 4 – Blue – Cream.
Then I’m off to the Toronto Fall Home Show for a fun Tweet-up mingling and tweeting with Toronto’s top home, interior design, renovation and decor friends and bloggers. Can’t wait!
But right now I’m feeling a bit nostalgic for this time last year. On September 21, 2011 I went down to NYC with approx. 100 ++ Design Bloggers from all over North America to be in the audience of the Nate Berkus Show. And it was a jam-packed 24 hours. Click HERE to read all about my adventure this day last year!!
Can’t wait to keep you caught up on more exciting social events for the rest of the season!! Have a great day!!
So, have you had a chance to soak up the latest issue of Dabble Magazine? It’s chock full of exquisite interior design, food and travel
In addition, there’s a fun little recap of the first ever Dabble Magazine Day on Cityline!! Oh yea…who else do you see below? It was my first time ever on Cityline and it was a total blast!!
I also had a chance to talk about my favourite pattern….check it out below along with my fellow design contributors The Moggit Girls and Lisa Canning.
But the most exciting thing for me in the latest issue of Dabble Magazine is my brand spanking new column called “#what’s trending” with a focus on what everyone is talking about in the design blogosphere and twitter. Hope you enjoy reading all about this gorgeous and funky pattern called Chevron AKA the zig zag.
Hope you enjoyed a sneak peak into the latest issue of Dabble Magazine. And don’t forget to subscribe for all the latest news on Dabble!!
If you want to know #what’s trending in home decor then contact me online or via twitter…I’d love to hear from you
Last Thursday night the party to be seen at was held on the second floor of the ultra glam Elte store. This party was all about Dabble Magazine, Kimberley Seldon and striking a fierce pose!!
So here’s a mini play-by-play of the evening’s events:
First, we had to get there!! Tamara from Wondermoms and I drove in together and fought the gridlock on the 401 expressway. Fortunately we made it to Elte in good time and even got a parking spot right in front of the main doors!! Score 1 for the killer high heels!! When we arrived the bar was still being set up with the absolutely to die for ‘’dabble-tinis” created by the very talented Cocktail Deeva!
Then I got my name tag identifying me as a Design Contributor for Dabble – exciting times!! Check out my “Dabble blue” nail polish!
Since the Media presentation wasn’t going to start until 6:30 the design contributors decided to kill some time by pretending to walk the Dabble catwalk and “strike a pose!”
By 6:30pm the room was starting to fill up with a mixture of media folk and avid Kimberley Seldon fans!! Then it was time for the media presentation to begin….and the guest of honour to take centre stage!!
Kimberley took the media crowd through the thought process of how Dabble Magazine came to be born and how the name Dabble was chosen (following is an excerpt from the Dabble website and very close to what she actually talked about)
“Dabble Dabble Dabble. Let’s face it. It’s just fun to say.
But that’s not exactly why we picked the title. It has more to do with Dabble’s subject matter, encompassing interior design, travel and food. Diverse topics that work in tandem to create Life Well Designed.
And that’s what Dabble is.
While I’m an interior designer by trade, travel is my muse. I learned early on that great design has roots that can be traced around the globe, speaking a universal language. The same is true of great food. How fortunate I’ve been to build a career that allows me to hone my skills working directly with clients, on television as a design expert, and as Decorating Editor of Style at Home magazine, all the while traveling the world for inspiration. You might say, I’ve Dabbled.
We want you to Dabble too.
Each bi-monthly issue of Dabble brings you inspiring design from around the world, immerses you in cities ripe for discovery, gives you a taste for far-flung cultures, and brings all of this together in an interactive magazine, so you can discover your own passion for travel, design and food.”
That’s the back of my head as I’m trying to get a good shot of Kimberley!
By 7pm, the throngs of Kimberley/Dabble fans had entered the building and the party was in full swing as we all rubbed shoulders with celebrity designers, bloggers and non-design folk! Ohhhh, and there was amazing food and wine to keep everyone ‘s tummy happy and full!
I always like to be just a little fashionably late for any social event I attend, and apparently that also applies to writing blog posts about social events! Although the IDS Opening Night Party was a week ago, it still feels like it just happened yesterday. Time flies when you’re having FUN!!!
Quick warning: It’s a ‘pose-fest’ of pics below. No design pics, just a lot of posers!!
The evening began with a pre-gala Tweet-up dinner at Nota Bene organized by 2 lovely ladies: Meredith Heron and Sonya Kincaid. It was wonderful to finally meet some great ladies that I tweet with, but have never met in real life! Women came as far as Alberta, Ottawa and Montreal. It was definitely a schmooze fest of Design professionals who love to tweet on Twitter.
Style at Home Magazine also attended the dinner with some fabulous prizes for some lucky winners — including Sarah! That’s Margot Austin and Lauren McPhillips from Style at Home. Lauren also wrote a blog post about the evening with lots of great pics — you can read it here.
After dinner it was off to the IDS Opening Night Gala…a party I definitely will attend from here on in! A schmooze fest of who’s who in the Interior Design World. Unfortunately my purse was too small to carry my lipstick, phone AND camera….thankfully my ‘co-horts’ in FUN had cameras and took some sassy pictures of us in action!!
Vamping it up for the camera!!
Catching up on some light reading.
And of course, the last pic of the night was with Mr. Dimples himself, Scott McGillivray from Income Property. Can you tell I was feeling absolutely no pain by the end of the night!
Hope you enjoyed this post, although I do apologize that it was heavily skewed toward ME 🙂 and my design buddies. But if you want to see more pics from the IDS show, than head over to either Vanessa or Ana’s Blog where they posted about the show on Trade Day.
Hope to see you back here real soon!
Thanks Ana for letting me use so many of your pictures in my post! xo
Hope everyone had a very glamorous new years celebration….but now it is time to revel in 2011!!! And I can’t wait because a ton of new design shows are starting this month and one of them is Sarah Richardson’s new show “Sarah 101.”
Here is quick description of her new show:
Sarah 101 is a back-to-basics crash course in design that breaks every project into simple building blocks and showcases Sarah Richardson’s signature approach of tips and tricks to solve design problems so that you too can transform any room in your home! Watch the premier Tuesday January 4th at 9:00pm ET on HGTV CANADA!
Last month, I had the utmost honour to be one of a few Canadian Design Bloggers asked to a group interview with Sarah and her faithful design side-kick, Tommy Smythe.
Good ole Tommy….he is a total hoot!!! And he is exactly the same in real life as he is on the show.
So here are some completely random fun facts about Sarah and Tommy:
Sarah and Tommy can literally finish each other’s sentences….that’s how well they know each other. The dynamics you see between the 2 of them on camera is exactly the same in real life!
You’ll see a totally different side to Tommy on Sarah 101. Sarah affectionately called it “the cheapification of Tommy”!! There’s no splurging on this show for Tommy. They worked within a tight budget of $10,000 for each project.
Lindsay (who you may remember as the design intern on Design Inc. – but who now is a full fledged designer on the team) has the world’s loudest sneeze….as we all witnessed.
Sarah has a ton more ideas for TV shows….so expect a lot more innovative design shows in the future with Sarah & Tommy.
Sarah & Tommy are currently filming season 4 of Sarah’s House – launching Fall 2011. AND, Sarah spilled there will most likely be a 5th season also, along with a season 2 of Sarah 101!! Whoooo Hoooo!
There are 11 children amongst the 4 female designers in the firm resulting in a lot of TMI shared. Tommy claimed he could easily do the job of an OBYGN….in case the design thing-a-ma-jiggy doesn’t work out!!
OK…let’s get to more pics of the famous offices of Sarah Richardson Design – officially redesigned on Design Inc.
The ‘waiting room” for clients….gorgeous chandelier. And there is always fresh flowers at the window.
If you are terrible at styling shelves….than memorize this picture and the next one. Now this is how you accessorize & style a bookshelf!!!
And of course, almost every piece of furniture in this office is from Sarah’s collection!!
I absolutely adore the colour scheme of the SR offices…..soothing but OH SO GLAM!!!!
Sarah sharing a chuckle with Lindsay…that’s Sarah’s office in the foreground.
This is the ultra glamorous ‘mini’ boardroom. When we arrived for the Blogger Q&A, Sarah & Tommy were being interviewed by HGTV.
I have a vision board in my office…but it is not as chic as this one….hmmmmmmm…my wheels are turning. A 2011 DIY project coming on I think!!!
Ohhhh, and they had tons of healthy and not so healthy yummy treats waiting for us. I could soooo work there with that beautiful kitchen just beckoning me!!! How many times have we seen Tommy and Sarah going through fabric swatches on that very island. It was totally surreal being there! Yes, I am totally gushing!!
The Dynamic Duo….gorgeous on camera and off!!
Thanks Tommy for letting me sit on your knee!!!!
I also got the chance to preview one of the shows that will be airing this month and you are going to love it!!! So don’t forget: Sarah 101 premiere show airs tomorrow or today (depending on when you are reading this) on HGTV Canada at 9pm. And then stay tuned for a brand new show premiering immediately afterwards called Design DNA (9:30pm).
“Design DNA is an exciting new series that puts a twist on the traditional biography: in this show, the hero may be a gadget, a chair, or an appliance.”
My apologies for such a long blog posting…but I was just very excited writing this post!!
Thanks for staying till the end!! xoxo

As I get ready to bid 2010 adieu in a few hours, I’d like to quickly share with you some of the fantastic friends and colleagues I’ve had the pleasure of meeting this year through Twitter, Facebook, my blog and LinkedIn. Some I formed great new friendships with while others, although fleeting, still made an impression on me!
So let’s get started…some faces you may recognize, others you may not…..but they all helped make 2010 a fabulous year for me!
Designing Colleagues / Mentors
Meeting Kimberley Seldon for the 1st time at her “Business of Design” Book signing party. I consider her to be a friend now!. Kimberley’s new lifestyle online Magazine “Dabble” launches in 2011.
Tracy Moore and I at a Cityline taping – funny enough, she only knows me by my Twitter Alias: GlamaMama! I’ve been an audience member so many times this year I hope she doesn’t think I’m a stalker!
Samantha Pynn at the same Cityline taping. She is very sweet!
Meeting Steven and Chris at their show made up of Design, Food and Lifestyle Bloggers.
I also had the pleasure of meeting Jane Lockhart at the launch of her new furniture line at The Gresham House. She’s an avid supporter of local interior designers.
Meeting the ultra glamorous gals from Rue Magazine with my BFF Vanessa at the Nate Berkus After Party in NYC!
At the Geovin Designer Appreciation Night with Carlos Di Conza, Vanessa Francis and Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault from Benjamin Moore!
And then of course, I finally got to meet Sarah Richardson and Tommy Smythe. Their new show Sarah 101 launches on January 4th and I will be blogging about the interview I had with them on that day!!
Ok, now I want to introduce all the fabulous ladies I met this year. I had the opportunity to attend so many design / networking events this past year. You’ll notice many familiar faces that keep popping up again and again!!
Sorry, but no blog post on Interior Design and Decor today. Instead, I wanted to let you know that this is where I will be on Thursday & Friday October 28th & 29th!!!
Blissdom Canada is Canada’s first social media conference for women, by women; it’s a celebration of how, why, and in what ways women use the Internet and other virtual tools to achieve and hold on to their bliss. Speakers and attendees will come together to teach, learn and inspire each other.
Women from across North America will gather to discuss what it means to be a Canadian woman networking, publishing and pursuing both business and pleasure in a borderless online world. All this, and plenty of opportunity for fun, frolic and friendship, under the bright red maple leaves of autumn in Canada’s largest city.
I will be back by the weekend with a new halloween post…full of glamorous halloween decorating!!
If your home is craving some glamour, then contact me online or in person! I’d love to help!
