Shop till You Drop: I love a great summer sale!

The weather is oh so hot right now in the Greater Toronto area…..so if you are inside cooling off , why not keep busy with one of my favourite past-times — and SHOP!  I have 2 great deals to share with you today….sales you do not want to miss.

The first sale is from one of my favourite online stores called Mod Pieces.  Lia Fagan from Mod Pieces creates custom lamps and now toss cushions in the most fabulous colours and patterns.  I first met Lia when she custom created a vintage lamp with that stunning chevron lampshade for my second appearance on Cityline talking about Chevron as a hot trend in home decor.  Here’s a walk down memory lane:

Her annual sale starts this Friday (June 28th)  for the Canada Day long weekend.  So don’t waste any time and click here on Friday

Her new line of toss cushions look amazing and so fashionable.  A perfect way to add some fun into your home decor. I definitely think I will be picking some up for a client….or maybe just for myself! 😉

And don’t forget to put in the coupon code to save 25%…use “OHCanada”

Now my next favourite deal is from DNA 11 –DNA 11 pioneered the application of genetic science in the creation of truly personalized unique custom art. You can create custom art with your own DNA, your lips and fingerprint portraits.  Want to make a statement – decorate your walls with a piece that is literally a part of you or your family.  I’m actually waiting for my lip canvas art to be delivered to me.  I will definitely show it to you once it is hung up in my Glam Cave.

I wanted to share this offer with you as they mentioned in their email that it is for fans and friends of DNA 11, but hurry because this awesome deal also ends July 1st.  When you spend just $100, you will actually get a $250 DNA 11 gift voucher for any piece you so desire.  How fabulous is that?

Save 60% Spend $100 and receive $250!

That’s all for now!  Shop lots and have a wonderful Canada Day long weekend!!

Glamorously yours,

Christine xoxo

Christine’s Rewind: 2012 Flashback

Happy New Year!!!  Hope you had a fabulous holiday.  I had a busy few weeks celebrating the holidays with my family and finishing up some personal home projects.  But now that the girls are back to school, it is time to get back to work for me!!

But first, I thought I would take a quick and fun 2012 rewind to see how Decor by Christine got to 2013.  So please bear with me and join in the fun as I recap some highlights from each month!

January

The IDS comes to town every January and once again my gang of interior designers and design blogger friends all got together at the Gala event.  I will be attending this years IDS at the end of the month!

IMG_1068

Kimberley Seldon launched her Business of Design website.  Her first conference which I will be attending is also at the end of the month.

And I finished a client’s dining room.  New fireplace, lighting and reupholstered chairs.

This was the dining room before:

And this was the after!  Huge difference, don’t you think?

February

I was totally honoured when Urban Barn invited me to design a chair for Urban Barn’s Custom Chairity Competition .

image

Unfortunately my chair didn’t win BUT it did come in 2nd place for most favourite chair  When it was auctioned off, my chair raised approximately $500.00 for the Jays Care Foundation. I still wonder who purchased my chair and where they are using it!

IMG_0276

Dabble Magazine turned ONE! And I continued to write the What’s Trending column for this awesome online magazine.

March

The family and I headed to Disney World over March Break.  Now that we are proud members of the Disney Vacation Club, we will be visiting a different Disney Resort around the world each year.

IMG_0403

The custom furniture  and area rug I designed for a client (the same client as the dining room above) got delivered.  You’ll notice that the coffee table is missing since my client couldn’t decide on what she wanted in there.

IMG_0272

Home Depot launched their latest DreamBook and had a “Match the Look” contest to promote it.  Home Depot invited 6 Canadian Design Bloggers (including me) to choose one of their favourite looks or finds from the interactive DreamBook online.

image

You had to choose which of these products was my favourite look.  My choice was the marble Carrera for backsplash and counter tops.

April

This month I attended an event at Bo Concepts furniture store for the launch of a new line of furniture by Karim Rashid, where I got to meet him and crooner Matt Dusk. Yes, I know I am a bit of a social butterfly but I do enjoy attending these kind of events!IMG_0660

For this same client, I also designed this mirror with a floating console table for her tiny foyer.

Here’s the mirror:

And now with the floating table/drawer.  It was painted in a high gloss black with crystal knobs…very chic!

I also participated at the media challenge for The Canadian Breast Care Foundation’s annual Yard Sale for the Cure.  I try to get involved in as much charity events as I can throughout the year.

May

May was a jam-packed month! My youngest sweetie made me this creative piece of artwork for Mother’s Day.

One of the big design projects I worked on all year was starting to wind down.  In this image, the custom drapes for the dining room had just been installed.  Excuse the IPhone picture…..I will be getting professional pictures of this project taken in the next month.  I haven’t really shown any pictures of this project except for the entertainment unit I designed. The colour scheme is blue and green which is carried throughout the entire main floor.  Can’t wait to show you the final reveal.

Dabble Mag is Live & What’s Trending!!

The latest issue of Dabble Magazine went live on Thursday and its dedicated to the gorgeous city of Barcelona, one of my most favourite cities in the world.

During my trip to Barcelona, I became obsessed with Gaudi, the famous Spanish architect.  In a future blog post I will share all the pictures I took of the magnificent structures he designed, including  Casa Batllo and Sagrada Familia.

Dabble Does Cityline

Hey Everyone,

Tomorrow is Dabble Day on Cityline!!!  And I’m on the show (hurray) with Kimberley Seldon and Nicholas Rosaci.  Dabble Day is all about Spain, as we explore Barcelona style in decor and food, plus a great DIY project by Nicholas with maps. In my segment I am talking about three of my favourite decor trends for the fall season: Ombre, Yellow & Grey colour Combo, and masculine decor which I have dubbed Masculine Sophisticate.

I was a little bit nervous as its been a while since I’ve appeared on Cityline so I totally felt like it was my first time again.  Hopefully it doesn’t come across on camera but we shall see tomorrow  (Tuesday) at 9am and 3pm eastern time.  We are always our worst critic aren’t we?

Below are a few pictures from last week’s taping.  Thanks to Nicholas’ fabulous partner Johnny for talking these photos!!

Here I am getting my Demo Table set up just before my decor segment begins taping.  That’s the lovely Tracy Moore in the background admiring a gorgeous houndstooth throw from Urban Barn

Decorate As You Dress: Turquoise & Orange!!

I have loved the colour combination of orange (whether you call it tangerine, citrus or coral) and blue (turquoise & teal especially) for many years now, and it is still going strong.  So for this month’s nail colour I decided to honour my adoration for these 2 colours.

photo

I also made my first official DIY canvas art using this fresh colour combo – highlighting another love of mine – chevron — this time last year.  And it is still in my family room on display!

photo

In my family room I have 2 bold orange occasional chairs that I had custom made 4 years ago.  Who knew that orange would be so hot 4 yrs later!! Yay me!!  My walls are painted in Benjamin Moore’s Rain Dance colour .

image

Yesterday my friend Leigh-Ann Allaire was on Cityline showing her DIY outdoor cushions in this colour combo.  You can watch the episode here.

If you are thinking about adding this oh so classic colour combo into your home, then here are some ideas to get you going!

A bold orange sofa will make quite the statement in a room, especially when accented with hits of teal blue.

For the home / living rooms - orange blue Orange, blue and cream living room with simple accen

Or course orange walls will always spice up a room!

Even More Orange and Blue Rooms

This neutral living room gets its VA VA voom from the light blue walls and the orange accessories and cushions. Subtle but bang on!

And sometimes all it takes is just a few colourful accessories to get the ball rolling!!  It’s like adding orange or turquoise earrings to your white dress – and you have instant style!

Leave me a comment and let me know if you would introduce this colour combination into your home…..or tell me how you incorporated it into your home decor.

Hope you have a fabulous day!!

Christine’s Rewind: What happened in September!

Hi! I’ve decided to start a new series today on The Glam Blog called “Christine’s Rewind.”  Sometimes I get so busy with client projects or my column for Dabble Magazine  that I don’t get to blog about things that are happening in my world.  Than weeks go by and all of sudden it feels like the moment was missed to blog about it.  So this new series will highlight what happened in the month previous that I never got to share with you. So here goes my September’s rewind – hope you enjoy it!

Welcome Back to the Glam Blog!!

OMG….it’s the middle of September and I have finally gotten myself in some kind of order to begin blogging on a regular basis again in the Glam Blog.

DSC03470

After returning from my fabulous trip to Portugal (I’ve included some pics my hubby took during our trip) I had to jump right back  into client projects that had been on hold until my return.

DSC03664

In addition, I had to finish up my new column for the latest issue of Dabble Magazine and tape a new decor segment on Cityline.  More about this in my next blog posting. And then of course, there was the dreaded week of back-to-school!

Cityline & Dabble Day: Tips on Styling an Étagère

WOW!  What a fantastic week it has been for me professionally and personally!

1) The Dabble Magazine Day show on Cityline aired on Tuesday, July 12th!!

2) I had a group of great women join me for breakfast that morning with lots of champagne and OJ to watch and celebrate my debut on Cityline!

3)  I’ve had wonderful feedback and comments from many, many people on Facebook and Twitter!.  So thank you very much!

So if you didn’t get a chance to watch it live, then you can click on the link to see it via the Cityline website

Oh, and this really excited me also!!

Fullscreen capture 13072011 15913 PM-1

It may seem insignificant to some but it’s a big deal to me —  especially when you are trying to build up your business –-  my name and company name was on the website as a Guest Expert!!  Whooo Hooo!

Fullscreen capture 15072011 121536 AM

So just to quickly summarize the styling tips I shared in this segment:

· Think in layers when placing items on the bookshelf and in different heights (i.e.: glass bowls layered in front of the picture.)
· When selecting objects, be aware of the scale and color. Objects shouldn’t blend in or get lost on the shelves. Beware of adding too small decorative items that will just end up looking like clutter

Fullscreen capture 15072011 121804 AM

· Books are wonderful home accessories, so showcase the most beautiful ones in your collection.

Fullscreen capture 15072011 122051 AM

· You can arrange the books by size, subject and color. And don’t forget to place books horizontally as well as vertically – it adds a nice rhythmic pattern to the shelf

Fullscreen capture 15072011 122308 AM

· Most people love symmetry when styling their shelves….it provides some structure and balance to the room…especially if the rest of the room has more chaos – like kids toys, etc. – this can be accomplished through matching book ends
· When grouping objects together – just remember the basic rule of threes — objects tend to look better when gathered in odd numbers, like 3s or 5s

Fullscreen capture 15072011 122516 AM

· Adding objects such as shapely ceramics, decorative boxes, small sculptures, family photos and original artwork makes your bookcase more visually appealing and personal.

Fullscreen capture 15072011 122728 AM

And because I was so nervous I totally forgot this last point I wanted to mention which was:

· Don’t forget about the background of your shelf….in this case; the shelves are open so you can see the dramatic painted dark wall…which helps your decorative pieces stand out stand out.
· Or you can paint or wallpaper the back of bookshelves to add a pop of colour and really bring the shelf to life

Fullscreen capture 15072011 124930 AM

Well I hope you enjoyed watching this Cityline/Dabble Mag segment as much as I enjoyed taping it.  Have a lovely weekend!!  Cheers!
