#LowesHolidayHomes: My Christmas Foyer Reveal

Christmas is literally around the corner and I am excited to show you my Christmas Foyer Reveal in partnership with Lowes Canada.  Just to recap, Lowes graciously asked me and a few other design bloggers to decorate a specific area of their home for Christmas and blog about it.  I chose my foyer as my #LowesHolidayHomes project.

Christmas Decorating Ideas for your Foyer by Decor by Christine

You can catch up on my previous two posts about decorating my foyer for Christmas here and here if you missed them.  Now let me show you what my foyer looked like last month before I started this project.  I can’t believe I forgot to take a picture of my staircase leading to the second floor but you can catch a glimpse of the banister where the half wall is that separates my living room (which is open to the foyer when you first walk in).

I needed new wreaths this Christmas and found some beautiful ones at Lowes to greet my guests before they walked into my foyer.

When you walk into my foyer the first thing you see are my spectacular Nutcrackers!! Have I told you how much I love these two guys! 😉

Handsome boys!!

I have always wanted a large Christmas tree to greet my guests at the door and with Lowes I was able to do this.  Since we have 10′ ft high ceilings on our main level I was able to get away with this beautiful life-like 9’ft pre-lit Balsam Fir artificial tree.  It is spectacular and definitely makes a dramatic statement when you first walk in and look to your left towards our living room.

Remember those cute birch tree planters I bought in the Winter Garden Area at Lowes….well, I dressed them up a bit with additional christmas decor picks I found at Lowes and voila…..they look fantastic on my half wall and on the mirrored chest in the living room that is open to my foyer.

I added some beautiful sugar pine cones and fresh mini swag from Lowes to each birch tree planter to dress it up.

At Lowes, I also purchased pre-lit garlands to add to my staircase banister as you walk upstairs.  I added white sparkly tulle to really glam up the staircase.  Love how it turned out.

Last, but not least is my console table in the foyer.  I decorated it with thoughts of a winter wonderland….and a dash of red.

Can you believe that I bought these gold & silver sequined cushions at Lowes?  I know….who knew that Lowes was getting so stylish!  They are perfect for my entire decor scheme.

This last picture pretty much sums up my Christmas foyer reveal.  I am really happy with it!

Decorating my foyer for the holidays with Lowes: My Inspiration

HI Everyone!

I was so excited when Lowes Canada contacted me to partner with them on decorating my foyer for the holidays.  So many times you are so exhausted after decorating the Christmas tree, the living/family room and the outdoors that the foyer to your house gets whatever is left over or just plain ignored.  Well, not this year!  This year my foyer is getting some major love from me and Lowes!

Colour-wise I wanted to stay neutral with my decor – sticking to golds, silvers and lots of white with fresh greenery and different textures like birch, tulle and faux fur.  I want to create a bit of a winter wonderland on my foyer table and greet guests with a beautiful large tree in the entrance.

When I went to visit one of Lowes newest concept stores in Burlington Ontario, I saw 2 things that helped drive my vision for the foyer.  This cute little Holiday Living White Sparkle Bark Tree

And this fabulous 51″ Bronze Nutcracker.  As soon as I saw it, I knew him and his twin would have to be the main stars of the foyer.

I created a Pinterest Board called My Holiday Foyer for #LowesHolidayHomes with some other inspirational images to drive my vision for decorating my foyer for the holidays.

For my next blog post I will take you through my purchases and design scheme.  You can catch up with my instagram posts and the other design bloggers involved in this exciting initiative with Lowes using hashtag #LowesHolidayHomes.

How to get Creative with your Elf on the Shelf!

Happy December!  This month is when our household goes into full-on Christmas mode frenzy!  And December 1st is when Crystal, our Elf on the Shelf makes her official Christmas appearance.

This is how Crystal appeared this morning to the delight of my two daughters.

Im back 2014 (800x600)

Excuse the messy counter but it was early morning school rush when I took the photo this morning!

Last year was our first Christmas with an Elf on the Shelf and I went crazy trying to be creative as to where she would appear in the morning for the girls.  Here are some of Crystal’s adventures at our house last Christmas.

Elf on the shelf collage 1a (800x800)

As you can see, Crystal loved to hang out with my daughter’s toys!

She also had a knack of appearing with our Christmas decorations and ornaments…..oh and once, she got into my pearls on my dressing table.  Crystal is definitely a diva elf! 😉

Elf on the shelf Collage 3a (800x800)

I will probably repeat a few of these ideas this month, but I definitely want some more creative adventures for Crystal to get into….and of course, amuse my daughters throughout December.  So I created a Pinterest board called Elf on the Shelf Ideas, and I definitely want to use some  of these clever ideas.  You can find the individual pictures with the link/sources on my board.  There are so many wonderful creative ideas out there!  I really can’t wait!!  I’m just a big kid when it comes to Christmas and all the excitement! 🙂

So, have you started getting ready for the holidays? Do you have an elf on the shelf for your family?  If so, please share some of your creative ideas as to how your Elf shows up every morning!

Christmas Tour of my House 2012!

Merry Christmas sweet faithful readers!!!

Are you ready for Christmas?  I am almost finished gift wrapping – just have the gifts for my 2 girls left….and I can’t wrap until they are in bed!! Gift with a bow

But at least I have finished all my Christmas decorating….and I would love to give show you how I decorated my house this year.  So welcome to my Christmas Tour 2012!!!

Let’s start with the first room you see when you enter through the front doors and turn to the right — the Conversation Room AKA the living Room:

This year I decided to go with a glamorous gold tree versus the white one I have put up for the last 3 years. I am very happy with how it turned out. It goes perfectly with the blue and gold theme in the conversation room and of course, it is ultra glamorous!!

Here are some of the new decorations I bought for the new gold tree.  One of my favourite things to do each season is find new decorations that reflects my mood.

My Photo Stream

The theme remains the same: birds, owls and fabulous shoes.  However, the first one is an adorable lucite motorcycle – for my hubby and the 2nd one is a tiny Eiffel Tower.  A trip to Paris, France has been promised to me in the near future. Airplane

There is an electric fireplace in the conversation room and each year I love to decorate it in shimmery silver and whites.

Although I love all the glitz and glamour, there was something missing between those 2 windows.  So I decided to do a quick DIY project and make some glamorous feather wreaths.

Some Dollar Store finds quickly becameMy Photo Stream1

this……I love it…simple but oh so glam!!!

Now lets head into the foyer….here is where my purple Christmas decor theme begins.

Oh wait, I decided to add my 2nd white feather wreath here….much better don’t you think?

Ok, let’s turn slightly right and head into the  dining room where I continue to use purple accents.

This year I decided to intermingle large pinecones with different sized purple ornaments in various textures as the centrepiece on my dining room table.  I call it rustic glam! And the dining room wouldn’t be complete without my beautiful lucite reindeer.  To this day, I still get asked where I bought them.

Now lets head to the back of the house into the family room where we showcase the real tree that we cut down at the tree farm each year.  Here is where we have fun with our decorations and the girls actively decorate.  Our home has 10 feet ceilings on the main level and normally our tree is that high….however this year we were a bit late getting to the tree farm so its just under 9’ft this year. And it made a huge difference in how many decorations we could get on our tree.

This is the instagram photo I took of our tree. (On a side note, if you are on instagram, than please follow me here and I will follow you back!)

My Photo Stream2

If you noticed from my gold tree and this one, I do not like tree toppers.  I much prefer to continue the decorations all the way to the top.

When we were at Disney World last March Break, we purchased some fun decorations.

This one is Mya’s Minnie Mouse ears!

And this one is Mackenzie’s…..Santa Mickey!

Can you guess that this one is mine?

The feather theme also continued into this room with my gorgeous purple peacock feather trees and wreath.

And last but not least, we can’t forget about Mr. Reindeer…..we couldn’t leave him out….doesn’t he look festive?

Well, this is the end of the our tour…..hope you enjoyed it!  And I hope that you and your families have a fabulous Christmas celebrating with lots of good cheer!!

Merry Glamorous Christmas!!! xoxo

Christmas Rewind 2011

Wow….I can’t believe 2011 is almost over.  I shut down for a bit over the holidays to spend time with my husband and 2 daughters.  It’s not too often that the girls and I have our #1 man for a solid week….so I decided to just focus on the family!

But I did promise you a peak into my Christmas decor so here is “Christine’s Christmas Rewind”. We had a wonderful holiday with family and friends over on Christmas eve AND day!!   A bit crazy and hectic, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

My darling glamour girls in front of our white Glamour tree in the living room.

Every year I purchase a few new ornaments for my white glamour tree.  This year my husband bought me this gorgeous chandelier with lots of bling from a Christmas Store.  Isn’t it gorgeous!!

Another chandelier ornament I got this year…..and believe it or not, I got this one at Wal-Mart.  I love mixing high and low ornaments on my tree.

My white tree is always a Blue/White & Silver theme with lots of birds and diamond crystal motifs.

I haven’t been into tree toppers for the last few years and instead prefer to add fullness via decorations at the top.

Another new chandelier ornament I picked up this year.

Diamonds are always a girl’s’ best friend!!

The four of us have personalized silver ornaments on the tree each year!

This is my fireplace mantle in the living room….again all glamour with lots of sparkle!

Don’t you love my ice crystals….they look like diamond chips or frozen ice chips on my mantle.

This is my stunning 3-piece mosaic Christmas tree that greets visitors when they walk into the front foyer.  It can look blue or purple depending on the light.

This is my console table in the foyer.  Unfortunately, my purple feather wreath fell off the mirror above so I just set it behind my purple decor boxes.

If you look in the mirror you can see one of my 2’ foot Santa on the staircase landing.

The girls love my miniature purple trees and of course, the purple Diva Deer (as we nicknamed her).  She oversees the family room purple tree!

And here is our purple passion Christmas tree that resides in the family room!!

And of course, we all have ornaments that reflect our personalities!   Yup, that fancy shoe is mine!  Winking smile

A Mickey Mouse keepsake from one of our Disney March Break vacations.

Our eldest is a budding equestrian.

Our youngest is the dancer of the family.

Butterflies, birds and peacock feathers is a common theme with our decor this year.

I purchased a few fun ornaments like this chevron one and the polka-dot one below!! (sorry for the blurry shots)

I chose orange and green accents to offset all the purple this year.

I used lots of purple wrapping paper to pretty up the bottom of the tree.

We hosted 15 guests on Christmas eve and had a seafood extravaganza of lobster, crab and jumbo shrimp.   Mmmmmmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

My husband is the cook and I set the table….one of my most favourite things to do when we are entertaining.

This year all my guests took home this crystal diamond ornament used as a napkin ring.

Place settings are also a must!

One of my favourite traditions each holiday season is putting a cracker by each place setting.  Everyone wears their silly paper hats and each person has a chance to read out their funny joke to the table.  My holiday crackers are actually purple but they look blue in this picture.DSC06835

And then this is what we woke up to Christmas morning!l Open-mouthed smile

Hope you too had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends.  Thanks for hanging out while I did a not-so-quick Christmas rewind.

All the best heading into new year’s eve!!

Christine xoxo

Christmas Inspiration Day 6: Shopping at West Elm

Wednesday night was the annual shopping event held at West Elm and  sponsored by Style at Home Magazine.  And once again, it was a fabulous night of shopping and networking with other design bloggers.  I brought a client/friend of mine and trust me we shopped till we dropped!!

Unfortunately I didn’t get to take any pictures because one hand was holding a glass of wine while the other was juggling an assortment of amazing home accessories from West Elm!!

So instead I thought I would show you some of the items we purchased yesterday along with some cool Christmas decorations you can purchase at the store or online.  Thankfully they ship right across Canada!!

Adorable nutcrackers and elves.

Love these double glass ornaments!!

If I wasn’t going all glitz and glamour this year again, I would definitely go with this natural, woodsy theme!

I have a bird fetish which you will see when I reveal my all white glamour Christmas tree….sadly I missed these yesterday or I would have picked up a few of these beautiful white feathered birds.

I bought some of these  above and these below for client gifts

And you can’t forget about their iconic white lacquered trays!!  Or in any other colour you desire!!

Under my guidance my client purchased the following:

Tall Butler tray stand with the large lacquered metallic silver tray for her dining room.  It will look stunning!!

She also purchased this adorable silver hexagon side table for her family room.  She has one lone occasional chair that is screaming for a small table where guests can set a drink on. This one is perfect!!

So it will look something like this in the end:

We both also bought some of these fun bowls…..just because they were so cheerful looking!  They can be used in the kitchen or in an office to hold paperclips, etc.

West Elm is one of my most favourite decor stores to pick up affordable home accessories for clients and for myself!!  If you haven’t been on their website  or store, then you must do so STAT!!

Happy Shopping!!

Glamorously yours,

Christine xoxo

Christmas Inspiration Day 5: A glimpse into my Christmas decorating theme

Believe it or not, I’m still not 100% finished decorating my home even though I started at the end of November!!  And I won’t be getting my real tree until this weekend.  But in the meantime, I though I would show you how I have incorporated my Purple passion Christmas theme into my home so far!!

If you know me well, then you know how much I love wine.  So it only makes sense that my dining room table centrepiece is made out of full length wine staves from the barrel.  And its the perfect vessel to display my ornaments.

I’m really pleased how my purple ornaments in varying sizes along with my purple table runner look on my dining room table. It’s very dramatic and glamorous flanked by my mirrored candelabras.

My Lucite reindeer and snowballs are on prominent display on my sideboard, alongside my mother’s silver tea/coffee set that she gave me so it has a lot of sentimental value (BTW: it needs a good polishing)

These snowballs are just Styrofoam balls with fake snow glued all over…..what an easy DIY project.  I actually found these at the Dollar Store and thought they were fabulous!!  And a great deal!!

On my other sideboard, I added a very glamorous mirrored tray to house my bar accessories.  Love my glittery nutcracker hidden among the martini utensils and wine decanter.

My purple theme will flow into the family room with the real tree as the focal point – once my hubby chops it down this weekend.  So right now all I have decorated is the mantel and a side console table.  The fireplace is not finished because I haven’t hung the stockings yet.  I bought some really gorgeous purple peacock feathered stockings at the end of the season last year so I am looking forward to putting them up.  They will go perfectly with my purple & green peacock feathered trees.

That’s a purple fur throw in the brown basket by the fireplace.

Here’s a close up of my feathered trees….aren’t they stunning???

I love symmetry as you can see by the way I displayed my candle holders and trees on the mantle.  Once the room is finished I will put up new pictures so you can see the final result.

And of course, we need more sparkle with my sparkly purple cones by the hearth.  Christmas is definitely the time to go overboard with lots of sparkle, glitz and glamour!!!

One of the accent colours to go with my purple theme is orange and bronze…and I showcase this colour scheme with an assortment of ornaments in these colours.  I found these adorable and very glam deer and the tiny nutcracker at Bouclair.  My 2 daughters love the glittery purple deer.

Here’s a better look! Have you noticed the feather theme going on here!! Feathers are very hot this season in ornaments.

Next week I will show you my purple tree in all its glory, the foyer AND my white glamour tree that resides in front of the living room window for all to see!.  Yes, every year I have 2 trees!

Well I hope you enjoyed a peek into my Christmas decor, and that I was able to inspire your own Christmas decorating in some way.

Leave me a comment and tell me how you are decorating you home for Christmas this year.

Glamorously yours,

Christine xoxo
