Back from my Blogging Hiatus!

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!  I’m finally back from my blogging hiatus!

happy thanksgiving from decor by Christine

I thought today was the perfect day to start my blogging journey again since I am thankful for so many things.  As many of you know, my father passed away this past February after his long battle with prostate cancer and I went kind of numb.  I had absolutely no interest in my writing on my blog, marketing my business or design clients.  Sometimes I just felt like I wanted to crawl into a hole and never come out.  However, life doesn’t stop – not with a family, friends and work life.

thankful & grateful

I’m thankful for my mother, who has been the strongest, most selfless woman I know, taking such good care of my father during his last year of life.  She continues to inspire me to be the best person I can be as a woman, wife and mother.  My husband who has been an absolute rock to me.  The nights he held me as I sobbed uncontrollably in his arms and his unwavering support will never be forgotten and I love him so much for being the husband that he is.  My sweet daughters who constantly make me smile, laugh and challenge me to just let loose when I start getting too serious.  My wonderful girlfriends who are there to always to offer a helping hand and get me out for some GNO fun!  And last, my design clients, who let me take time to mourn and heal.  Not many clients would do that, and I take pride that I have developed close relationships with the clients I have.

So now I’m back to blogging!  I’ve been working on some exciting design projects & starting new partnerships that I look forward to sharing with you in future blog posts.  I also had a huge milestone birthday this past August (hashtag glamamamaturns25x2) and celebrated with a fabulous vacation in London, Paris and Lisbon.  I celebrated my birthday having dinner at the Eiffel Tower and spending time at Chanel’s flagship store on 31 Rue Cambon.  😉  The pictures my husband & I took would fill over a thousand blog posts but I promise to share highlights from each city.

I hope that you dear reader were also able to spend time this past weekend with family and friends, whether it was for Canadian Thanksgiving, Columbus Day or just a regular day.  And please share what you are thankful for on this chilly October Monday.

what are you thankful for

Talk to you soon,

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

Hopefully it’s the former versus the latter. I’ve been having some major issues publishing blog posts through windows live writer, which I use to compose my blog posts. In addition, I’m in the process of updating some portfolio pictures in a new format into my style book but its been nothing but headache after headache. So lets just say me and my laptop have not been getting along lately.

In the short term I will try to blog from my iPad but things may look wonky sometimes. So don’t forget about The Glam Blog. I promise I will be back!

Glamorously yours,
Christine xoxo

February Blahs

I don’t know about you, but I am so sick of winter!  The month of February has been a horrible month for me on a personal level and I am ready to give it a fierce kick in the ass!

At the beginning of the month my dad was hospitalized with chest pains.  However, after going through multiple tests lasting almost a week, it was determined that his heart and lungs were just fine.  So that’s great  news.  The bad news:  his prostrate cancer has spread to the bone in 2 areas which was causing this pain in his chest and lower back.

My dad has been fighting prostate cancer successfully for over 25 years but this latest news has really put me in a funk.  I’ve been finding it very difficult to concentrate on anything.  I start crying at the slightest thing and basically have been ignoring my blog because I haven’t been inspired to write about anything glamorous or beautiful for you.  That is why you have only heard from me twice so far in 2013.

I really hate feeling like this because normally I am such an energetic go-getter kind of gal.  So I have decided that I need to kick myself in the butt and get out of this dour mood.

From here on in, I am only going to think and write about pretty happy things.  And that starts with Spring – a season of regrowth and rejuvenation.  My dad needs that and so do I!!

Starting today, in my world it’s going to be spring already and that is all I am going to blog about for the next little while.

Thanks for listening and I totally appreciate YOU — my blog followers sticking with me!!

IDS Week and other fun events you need to know about!!

Well, its that time of year again when utter craziness begins with fabulous social events!  Starting tomorrow, the Interior Design Show opens in Toronto at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. And I can’t wait!!  It’s always a great par-tay!!

Conversations in Design - Trailblazers & Trendspotters

When I attended the media preview and the gala last year I posted about them here and here!  Although I can’t make it to the media preview this year due to time constraints I will be attending the gala with all my interior design friends and attending Trade Day on Friday.

But first, Kimberley Seldon is having a pre-gala launch party & tweet-up for her new Business of Design website.  Business of Design is a network community of industry peers; an innovative professional development website specifically created for interior design professionals.

Once Kimberley’s party is finished at Modern Weave, then it is off to the Gala for the IDS opening night!!  Remember this pic of the gang from last year!  Same faces – new outfits!!

Haven’t figured out what I am going to wear yet but I am wearing these fabulous ‘shooties” by LAMB  I bought last week!  Are they not to die for!!  And yes, my feet will be dying by the end of the evening!! Winking smile

Then Friday morning we are off to Trade Day at the IDS Show.  I’m attending Blog Podium right at 9 am to hear a series of great speakers speak to a huge group of design bloggers.

Should be a very insightful morning!!  After that the gang will wander all the fabulous design booths and I promise to take lots of pictures.

Ok….I need my beauty sleep so see you back here with tons of fun from the IDS!!

Glamorously yours,

Christine xoxo

San Francisco Here I Come!!

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a busy last few days so I never got a chance to post anything new and I have so much to share with you via this blog, but all things GLAM will have to wait until I get back from……..SAN FRANCISCO!!!  Yes, I am leaving on a jet plane and heading out to the west coast AND wine country!!  Whoo Hoo!!

Here is just a sneak peak at some of the things I will be up to for the next week!!

Arrive in San Francisco and head to the Fairmont Heritage Place Hotel, Ghiradelli Square for our first night!!

We pick up our car rental…a Ford Red Mustang — and of course, it has to be a convertible!!

Perfect for driving along the west coast with the wind in my hair!!!  🙂  Yup, that will be me and my hubby!!!

Then we are off to Sonoma Valley where we will be staying at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa!!

Isn’t it absolutely gorgeous!!!!

The rest of the afternoon will be spent  touring 3 wineries:

  • Ledson Winery for a tasting and lunch
  • Chateau St. Jean for a reserve tasting
  • Deerfield Ranch Winery for a cave tasting

And the greatest thing ever is that we’ve hired a driver to take us around our chosen wine tours for our 2 day stay in Sonoma/Napa Valley….so the hubby and I can just relax and taste all the wine we want without having to worry about drinking and driving!!!

We get back to the Inn around 3:30 because then we have a Couples Wine and Roses Spa package booked for 4:30 pm!!  A perfect way to end a day of hectic wine tasting….with more wine, wine and wine….oh and of course dinner later!!!

Today is a jam-packed day full of wine tours.  Here are the wineries we will be visiting:

  • 10:00am: Pickup @ The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn
  • 10:45am: Rubicon Estate ..walk–in—self guided tasting/tour (this winery is owned by Francis Ford Coppola!)
  • 12:30: Quintessa Tour and Tasting..appointment
  • 2:15pm: Taylor’s Refresher..AHI Burger!!
  • 3:00pm: Sterling..cable car to the tasting room…walk–in
  • 4:15pm: Beringer ……walk-in
  • 5:15pm: Peju…walk-in
  • 6:30pm: The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn

Ok….I’m exhausted just looking at this list….and feeling just a tad tipsy!!!  Are you?  🙂

And then the rest of the day will be spent shopping!!!  Can’t wait!!!!

Today will be a full day of sight-seeing.  We will be doing an Alcatraz / San Francisco city Tour….so this day should be alot of fun!!!

Alcatraz Island is a 25-acre island located just 1 1/4-miles from San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf. Alcatraz is best known as the infamous and notorious former federal prison – home to the likes of Al Capone, George “Machine Gun” Kelley, and Robert “The Birdman” Stroud. From 1933 to 1963, the Federal Bureau of Prisons used the facility as a maximum security prison. It was closed in 1963 due to its expense. Today Alcatraz swarms with tourists — about a million a year.

Here are some of the sights we will enjoy during our 3 1/2 hour tour of San Francisco City:

Fisherman’s Wharf, The Marina District, San Francisco Bay, Palace of Fine Arts, Presidio National Park, Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, Cliff House, Ocean Beach and Pacific Ocean, Chinatown, Italian North Beach, Victorian Homes (Painted Ladies), Cable Cars, Nob Hill, Civic Center, City Hall, Opera House, Financial District, Union Square, Coit Tower, Bay Bridge, Twin Peaks, and Ghirardelli Square.

Ok…my feet are already hurting just thinking about this full day.  Think I need a glass of wine!!

This day will hopefully be a bit more relaxing!!  We will be heading to the first-ever ELLE DECOR Showhouse—a spectacularly renovated 4,500-square-foot home in the historic St. Francis neighborhood— which promises to be a GLAM sensation. This house was created in partnership with the Junior League of San Francisco.

Then we will take a drive up the coast and be spontaneous the remainder of the day!!

We check out and sadly leave the beautiful city of San Francisco.  But I know by this day I will by dying to see my 2 little glamour girls back in Canada!!!

Anyway, I will be blogging daily starting next Tuesday about my trip to San Francisco with ALOT more detail.  Hope you are looking forward to it as much as I am looking forward to getting on that jet plane tonight!!

Ciao for now!!!!!
