Foyer

This foyer was all about creating drama and drawing the visitor into the home.  The beautiful older Louis XV style chairs were reupholstered in a funky brown and cream zebra print that also matches the seat cushion of the window seat at the landing up the staircase (not shown).  The large round mirror creates a focal point on the wall and the horse’s head on the console table adds dramatic interest to the hallway foyer.

Living Room

This living room was nicknamed the ‘conversation room’  due to the furniture layout of the room – it dictates conversation amongst the seated guests.  The vision of this room was “a box of chocolates with diamonds.”  This was achieved by adding rich brown wallpaper with a silvery blue damask pattern on the walls, elegant chairs in a striped blue/gold colour and a gorgeous ottoman covered in brown-gold silk and gorgeous custom-made drapery in.  The “diamonds” part was represented in the gorgeous mirrored chest and shiny silver and glass accessories.  We added an electric fireplace to create a focal point in the room, and due to its rich dark wood, it looked like the fireplace had always been there.  An elegant area rug is the last missing piece for this room….however the perfect one still needs to be found.  Decor Tip:  an area rug for this type room should be in investment purchase, so don’t rush out and buy something just to have a rug in the room.  Sometimes finding the right piece takes time.

Dining Room

The objective was to create a room that was elegant and chic and that could seat up to 16 people for huge family gatherings.  The gorgeous but simple Candice Olsen wallpaper in Sand Ironworks, along with the long rectangular double pedestal dining table helped achieve this look.  The element of surprise for the fairly traditional looking room was the this ‘piece de resistance’ — the very modern chandelier with lots of sparkly bling…quite the conversation starter.

Family Room & Den

The homeowner wanted a comfortable but stylish room for TV viewing and entertaining friends.  The brown leather sectional allows for lots of seating and the matching leather ottoman actually opens up for lots of storage…good for storing away children’s toys.  The 2 rust coloured occasional chairs offer additional seating and create high colour impact in a fairly neutral room.

Kitchen

The homeowners wanted a traditional looking kitchen with all the modern conveniences.  The main kitchen cupboards are in a Glazed Cream Montclair Maple, while the kitchen island was created to look like a stand along piece of furniture – it was finished in a Glazed Blackberry Marquis Maple.  Antique Brown was chosen for the granite countertops.  The backsplash is in a 2 x 4 Tumbled marble mosaic Travertine stone.  The 3 industrial –looking pendant lights over the island gives this traditional kitchen a bit of an edge.

Powder Room

A powder room should be glamorous  and have a “WOW” factor for when your guests walk in.  This powder room has all that – we decorated it with the vision of a velvet-line jewellery box filled with diamonds.  We achieved this look with dramatic black wallpaper with a large pewter damask pattern.  The chandelier is all about bling.  We even wallpapered the ceiling to make guests truly feel like they were inside a black velvet jewel box.  Decor Tip:  Don’t be afraid to create bold statements with small rooms…wallpaper in bold prints can produce this impact for you

Master Bedroom

The vision for the master bedroom was old Hollywood glamour – the grey velvet headboard, the mirrored end tables, lots of cushions on the bed and another dramatic chandelier with lots of sparkly bling.  The attached TV sitting room / retreat was created to escape from the children for quiet reading or TV viewing.  The Hollywood theme continued with the addition of a glamorous leopard print chaise.

Ensuite

The homeowners wanted a tranquil, spa-like ensuite to escape the stresses of daily life and loved the colour combination of browns and blue which is reflected in the wall colour and finishings of this bathroom.  His & Her vanities separated by a makeup table give this area a seamless look with matching wall mirror and lighting.  The huge shower has a built-in marble seat, while another large hanging chandelier anchors the soaking tub.

Little Girl’s Room

The colour theme for this bedroom centred around the little girl’s 3 favourite colours: Pink, black and white.  I found this beautiful Candice Olsen wallpaper in mini pink daisy pattern (from her Children’s line of wall coverings) which reflected all 3 colours and put it on one feature wall as the focal point of the room – this was my jumping off point in starting the decor of this room.  I wanted to decorate this room so that the little girl could grow into this room and as a teenager still be proud of the colour choices she made.  The other 3 walls are currently very bright pink, but in the future they can be painted a more sophisticated cream white which will still flow with the wallpaper.  In the centre of the room is a stunning black velvet chandelier that is quite the showcase of the room.  A pretty little corner window seat was accessorized with custom drapery and seat cushion in a matching pink with white dot fabric.

Mood Boards

Mood boards are often used by interior designers or decorators to enable them to illustrate visually the direction of style which they are pursuing for a client’s design project.  A decorating mood board often contains magazine clippings of furnishings that inspire the design concept. Sketches and a floor plan can also be included on the board. Paint chips and other color swatches are also featured on a decorating mood board. The client can view the mood board and decide whether he or she likes the main design concepts the board represents. A Mood board can be actual or virtual.  The examples below are virtual mood boards I created for clients.
