Decorate as You Dress! Mint Green Obsession!

Hi Everyone,

Lately I have been obsessed with mint green in both fashion and home decor.  To the point where I just got my nails painted in this lovely hue!

I also started a board on Pinterest highlighting everything I love in fashion and home decor in Mint Green.  You can follow my board here if you have an account.

In the meantime, here are some glorious images of this fresh colour to inspire you to add some mint green to your closet or home decor this spring!!

image

The current issue of House Beautiful is all about green!! Love that stunning chair!

image

The fashion runways for spring 2012 also showed a lot of mint green.  However, this colour has been popular for many years now as seen in the gorgeous Haute Couture gown by Elie Saab  from her spring 2010 collection.  So there really is no need to be fearful of adding this colour into your closet or a few toss cushions!!

Now let’s look at some interior design highlighting mint green in all its glory!!

How about a mint green kitchen??

If that is too much for you, then how about some mint green pieces for the room:  Like this vintage green fridge by SMEG! FUN!

A simple green chair can also make quite the impact!

image

I’m loving how fun this mint green vintage tub looks in this bathroom!

image

How about a quick DIY: Grab some mint green paint and freshen up your bookshelf for spring! (don’t you love how the shelves were styled also!)

image

I absolutely adore the look of this room.  Imagine a sea-side cottage and you’ve got this gorgeous room.  I love the mint green grass cloth wallpaper and accessories.  Red heart!!

Here’s a sneak peak into my family room.  The wall colour is called Sea Haze / BM 2137-50 and depending on the light it can look like sea foam.  I really love this colour by Benjamin Moore because it changes to so many colours throughout the day!  Highly recommend it!!

image

And last but not least, I couldn’t resist including these vision boards I found on Pinterest – they basically say it all!!  I love Mint Green!!

So are you obsessed with Mint Green now….I hope so, because you will be seeing a lot of it this spring!!  Have a great day!!

Decorate As You Dress: Tangerine Tango!!

This is the first “Decorate As You Dress” blog post of the year and I thought why not start it off with Pantone’s 2012 Colour of the year:  Tangerine Tango!!

image

“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

image

Now let’s take a look at how you can incorporate this vivacious colour into your wardrobe or home decor:

image

I absolutely adore this spring coat as much as I adore this headboard.  Now that’s the way to add some POP into your room!!

image

image

On the other hand, this kitchen is definitely over the top orange which is something I would NOT recommend doing in your home but I would definitely wear that cute orange outfit above.

image

Pops of orange like these counter stools or the dining room chairs below is a much palatable way to go with decorating your home in this hue!  And used with whites is a sure-fire way to garner positive attention.

image

Definitely much more refined looking when such a bright colour is used as more of an accent!

But if you want to stop traffic at your next gala event, then this gown is the way to go!!!  STUNNING!!

image

And just as stunning is this front door.  What a way to welcome guests to your home!

image

image

I’m actually coveting this glorious wallpaper along with these oh so glam Steve Madden shoes!!!  Be still my beating heart!!

image

In case you want to run out and paint a feature wall in this colour, Benjamin Moore has a similar colour called Tangerine Melt CC-091.

image

If I have inspired you to incorporate this wonderful colour into your home or closet, here are a few tips:

1)   This hue is magical when used as an accent against a neutral background, especially with greys!

image

2) Don’t be afraid to use in colour combinations such as blue & orange or pink & orange!

image

image

Wow, I love this glamorous girly look for my Glam Cave!!

3)  Don’t be shy about incorporating this colour into your wardrobe or home decor…start off small, then go from there!

image

Like this or like this……

image

4)  This colour is not for everyone so if it doesn’t suit your skin tone or you absolutely hate anything orange in your home, then DON”T DO IT!!  Instead try Benjamin Moore’s 2012 colour of the year: Wythe Blue (HC-143).  I’ll blog about this colour later this week.image

So tell me….are you ready to tango with the tangerine?

If you want to know how to decorate your home for 2012, then contact me online or via twitter…I’d love to help!

Glamour Friday: Big Brother 13 House Revealed

Are you one of those people who readily admit to watching Big Brother each summer or are you too embarrassed to admit it?  I’m the former and have been watching Big Brother since the first season.  Yea, I know….I’m hanging my head a bit sheepishly…but hey, it makes for great mindless entertainment! (insert irritating Rachel laugh here!)

So besides irritating houseguests and good strategic game, I do look forward to seeing how the producers change up the house decor each year.

This year the theme of the house is Venice Beach complete with fortune tellers, skateboards, graffiti and lots of bright bold colours. If you didn’t watch the first episode last night, here’s a peek into the house.

The kitchen:  I love the butcher block countertop mixed in with a stainless steel countertop in the breakfast bar area. You can see surfboards sticking out of the walls high above the sliding door.  And of course the large round dining table where many meals and  nominations will take place.  Note the bikes…very Venice beach….now we just need a board walk!

The layout of the kitchen hasn't changed since the previous season, but there are a few new features to point out: Butcher-block counters replace last year's blue Formica ones; a window (you can actually see out of and into the backyard) is next to the fridge; and 17 (not that we're counting!) surfboards protrude from the wall above the sliding glass doors.CBS/Sonja Flemming - Tuesday, June, 28, 2011, 12:28 AM

And of course, the BB13 living room where 2 guests to be nominated for eviction each week will sit.  They definitely brought the outside into the inside this season – note the outdoor furniture!

Big Brother 13 house – living room

I’m loving the colours of the lounge or parlour room (as CBS calls it).  A bold colour combination of purple and black and the checkerboard floors.  The large daybed will be perfect for strategizing against other players.  Oh, and the fortune teller is in the bottom left corner – very spooky!

Co-ed bathroom have never been my thing.  Just thinking of all those prying eyes on you makes me want to gag.  But I love the colour scheme and the flooring.

The HOH bedroom has a circular bed this year…very glam!!!  And I continue to adore the pairing of turquoise blue and orange in anything!!  I see a lot of West Elm and Crate And Barrel with smidges of Jonathan Adler’s ceramic animals in here.

Love the trellis-style wallpaper in the HOH bathroom – it’s much more striking in blue then it is in the brown in the photo above.  And I want that elephant!!

Wow…every time I look at this bedroom on the main floor I begin craving ice cream and dancing to Katy Perry’s hit song ‘California Girls’  — not surprising that it has been nicknamed the Katy Perry bedroom!

This other bedroom featuring 3 twin beds with stunning bent brushed steel was inspired by architect Frank Gehry.  Amazing…I love it!

The outside lounge area has gorgeous pops of colour – so vibrant and full of energy – perfect for dissing another housemate!  And it looks like they brought the inside furniture outside in this case.

The Venice Beach inspired graffiti wall.

Lee Ann’s Kitchen Reno: Part 6 – Adding Femininity via Up-cycling!

I will be revealing Lee Ann’s kitchen reno next week with the granite and backsplash installed, along with the awesome faucet Delta Canada provided for Lee Ann.  In the meantime, I wanted to show you a little up-cycling project I just completed for Lee Ann’s kitchen.

With all the hard lines of black, white and grey going on in Lee Ann’s kitchen, I really wanted to add some softness and texture to her kitchen.  And the easiest way to achieve softness is through fabric.  But since our budget was practically depleted, I decided to find a used chair in great condition for her small desk area.

If you are in the Toronto area, than you have probably heard of Moveline Hotel Liquidators – their products originate mainly from major hotel chains across North America.  Quality furnishings at fantastic prices.  This is the chair I purchased for Lee Ann.

This is the fabric we chose to update the chair through Crown Wallpaper & Fabrics.  What do you think??

IMG_5799

In addition, the legs of the chair were pretty banged up so I had them sanded down and painted a high gloss black.

And this is now the $55.00 chair!!!

IMG_6119

IMG_6120

IMG_6121

I adore it and so does my client!!  I think it’s very glam, chic and feminine!  What do you think?

All that’s left is window treatments for the window by the sink to complete this kitchen reno.  Anyway, stay tuned for a look at the completed kitchen reno next week…..and my dilemma with this chair.

Lee Ann’s Kitchen Reno: Part 5 – The Kitchen begins to take life!!

It’s been a white since I’ve updated you on Lee Ann’s Kitchen reno and lots has been happening!!

If you recall, Lee Ann donated her kitchen to our local chapter of Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore.  You can read the post here as a refresher.

Once the kitchen was cleared, my contractor came in and started rebuilding the walls and removing useless bulkheads on the ceiling.

2011-06-16

Lee Ann also desperately needed proper lighting in her new kitchen so a new lighting plan was created.  We added 10 pot lights to her new kitchen layout.

2011-06-161

And a few days later, this naked kitchen slowly started to get clothed with a fabulous new floor!!

2011-06-162

The flooring goes out into the hallway all the way to the front door.  I’m so happy the way it turned out.  But that’s not all…..a few days later my  contractor came in and installed all the upper & lower cabinets!!  Soooo exciting!!  Are you ready!!!!

2011-06-166

I love how the uppers go all all the way to the ceiling finished with a lovely crown moulding.  Cupboards were painted in Benjamin Moore’s CC-80 Grey Mist.

2011-06-165

If you remember from Lee Ann’s old kitchen (click here for a refresher) her stove used to be right by the doorway into the kitchen.  Now we have the stove framed by 2 sets of mini pot drawers.  What a huge difference!!  And so much more functional with lots more storage!!

2011-06-163

And I turned Lee Ann’s old eating area into a more functional space by adding in a much needed pantry and a new desk area for Lee Ann to check her email or pay bills.  And how apropos is it that her new desk is adjacent to her new wine fridge. Winking smileSee that box on the floor above – inside is the gorgeous new faucet that the folks at Delta generously supplied to Lee Ann!!

2011-06-167

Apparently Lee Ann couldn’t wait for the kitchen to be finished….she went right ahead and started displaying her wine glasses.  My kinda gal!!

You may have noticed that the countertop and backsplash are still missing.  Well, you’ll have to come back next week to see it all installed!! I’m also going to share the fabulous faucet that Delta provided for Lee Ann’s new kitchen and the old chair I “up-cycled” into total feminine kitchen glam!!

Decorate As You Dress!! My Summer White Toy Watch!

Wow……it’s certainly been a while since I posted a Decorate as you dress blog posting.  My sister was visiting from British Columbia so we spent some quality time together and I’ve been crazy busy with decorating projects for clients – which I can’t wait to share with you.

But now let’s get to my most favourite fashion accessory of the moment:  my gorgeous white Toy Watch!!  It’s such a fun accessory and every time I look at that huge white face I just think of beautiful layers of white drapery billowing in the wind.

3611-2T[1]

So when I saw this all white home in Style at Home Magazine designed by design editor Ann Marie Favot , it so reminded me of my Toy Watch!!

Lee Ann’s Kitchen Reno: The Demolition!!

Hi everybody, are you ready for another update on Lee Ann’s kitchen reno?  So let’s talk demolition!!  Out with the old and in with the new  Open-mouthed smile.

Although Lee Ann’s kitchen looked like an 80’s nightmare gone bad, the cupboards and countertop were still in good condition.  And as every good designer knows – you should always offer up a few different design options to your client.  One of the options to update her kitchen was to keep her current cupboards and paint them out in a more classic & modern colour and get a new countertop.

Here’s a reminder of how they looked.

But Lee Ann quickly shot down that option…..she wanted an entirely new kitchen…and really who could blame her.  But since her kitchen was still in good shape, I thought let’s at least donate the cupboards and countertop to the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore.

And that’s what we did.   The process was simple enough.  A representative from the ReStore came over to the house to review the kitchen and ensure that it would be salvageable.  Once that was determined,  a day was scheduled for the demolition!

IMG_5774A A group of 8 volunteers basically tore the kitchen apart and packed it up into their truck. It was an amazing process to watch.

2011-05-26

2011-05-261

And in less than 2 hours the kitchen was empty.  They even took her old stove and dishwasher away.

Donating to your local Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a win-win for everyone involved.  The ReStore gets cupboards and countertops in good condition to sell to someone who can use them AND Lee Ann receives a tax receipt for any of her kitchen items sold.  Like I said, a win-win!!

If you live in the western region of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) than you can get more information at http://www.habitathalton.ca/ and you can follow them on Twitter at @HabitatHalton.

Glamour Fridays – Pink & Zebra Palace!

WOW!!  If I was single my bachelorette apartment would look exactly like this.  Pink, zebra print, Lucite and pops of black make for a total GLAM SLAM!!!

This apartment was highlighted in the premiere issue of High Gloss Magazine and was designed by Erin Gates, one of the editors at the online magazine.

It’s ultra feminine but not overly ‘precious’.  I especially love the strong hits of black in the x-benches and cushions. And oh la la, I love me some zebra print!!

Photography by Sarah Winchester

I also love how every inch of this small space as utilized.

This kitchen may be tiny but it is oh so glam!!  From the Kelly Wearstler iconic imperial trellis wallpaper on the walls to the mosaic backsplash to the  Carrara marble waterfall countertop.  Yes folks, a kitchen can be glamorous!!!

And of course, touches of Lucite throughout  the apartment never hurt anyone!! Red heart

The eat-in area is highlighted by the Saarinen tulip marble table and the Jonathan Adler white lacquer console table.  So yummy!!

So would you live here??

Lee Ann’s Kitchen Reno: Part 2 — The Design

Well, it’s time for another update on Lee Ann’s 80’s kitchen reno.  If you missed seeing what it looks like than click here for the recap.

Here’s a list of the priorities for Lee Ann’s kitchen:

Lee Ann's Kitchen reno list of requirements-1Now

While creating the design I had to keep these priorities in mind. So here is the design plan I created that Lee Ann approved!!  Since the kitchen is small we couldn’t really change the footprint of the space so placement of appliances were staying put.  However we did centre the stove in between 2 pot drawers that Lee Ann badly needed.

Lee Ann Stranges4

I also added in a full height pantry for extra storage, a chef’s desk and a small bar area with wine fridge and glass enclosed cupboards for wine glasses, etc.  By utilizing the eat-in area, I was able to provide Lee Ann with lots more storage and a wonderful area where she can check her email or pay bills.

Below are some 3D and elevation drawings (supplied by my kitchen cabinet supplier) for you to get a better perspective of what the kitchen will look like after the renovation!!  I’m so excited!!

Lee Ann Stranges-1

Things are in full swing now.  Stay tuned for my next posting where I will share with you all the materials chosen for Lee Ann’s kitchen.
