Glamour Friday: Hayden Panettiere’s Home

Happy Friday!  I kind of let my Glamour Friday series fall off my blogging schedule this year, but I am bringing it back for the fall.  YAY!  As I was “flipping” through Next Issue – yes, that is how I read/view all my magazines now — I downloaded the Fall issue of Domino Magazine and fell in love with Hayden Panettiere’s home in this issue.

Hayden is one of the stars of the soapy night-time drama called “Nashville.”  Since they film the bulk of the series in Nashville, she has recently purchased a new home with her new husband, world-champ boxer Wladimir Klitschko, and their baby daughter Kaya.

I love that despite having a young family, she wasn’t afraid to bring in tons of glamour through a mixture of different textures, pattern and colour — thanks of course to her Designer Benjamin Vandiver.  Now let`s take a peek into Hayden`s home.

Look at this foyer…..now this is the way to make a dramatic entrance.  Love those stools! Totally swoon-worthy and so glam!

Domino - Hayden panettiere foyer

Yup…..grey kitchens are still a hot trend.  I want those counter stools!

I`m seeing a lot of chocolate brown rooms right now.  A chocolate brown wall really makes a room look rich and glamorous.  Mix gold accents like the 2 matching etegeres, animal print and bold art — and you have a room that your guests will never want to leave.

Domino - Hayden panettiere LR

Look at this shelf in the study! Forget books — just add stacks of wood and WOW!!!  What a statement!

Domino - Hayden panettiere study

I am a huge fan of wallpaper – for myself and clients – and this metallic wallpaper is swoon-worthy in her dining room.  The juxtaposition of the traditional wood table keeps the room  from being over the top.  A good design lesson right there.

Domino - Hayden panettiere DR

Her bedroom is totally girly glam which I love.  However, I question the size of the bed.  From this angle, the bed looks like a queen, which I find hard to believe.  Her husband is a boxer, well over 6` ft tall, so you would think they would have a king sized bed.  How does he sleep comfortably?  Oh well, I love the headboard and I am coveting those pink lamps.

Domino - Hayden panettiere Master BR

Since the master bedroom is so girly, Hayden was sweet enough to create a vintage inspired music room above the garage where her husband can escape to play the drums as loudly as he wants.   Given that Hayden is a singer also, I can imagine her hanging out here as well. Oh and apparently the vintage-style sofa boasts arms that open into insulated beer coolers. Score!

Happy Glamour Friday…..and have a super weekend!

Glamour Friday: Jonathan Adler does Glam

I’ve always loved the design and pottery work of Jonathan Adler, but lately I’m just obsessed with his new furniture pieces that screams GLAMOUR.  I guess what I’m really loving are all the luxe touches he’s added — brass and gold accents, Lucite, different textures and overall glamourous designer details like the greek key pattern in a rug.

Take a look at these images I got from his website and I dare you to tell me that you wouldn’t want a piece of Jonathan Adler in your home!

My 2014 Mantra

Hello my dearest Blog Friends,

Today, January 7th marks the beginning of 2014 for me, Decor by Christine and this blog.  Prior to this, I was still in holiday mode with the girls.  It should have started yesterday but I wasn’t feeling well, so today it is!  Apparently yesterday, January 6th or the first day back at work after the holidays is the most depressing day of the year….so maybe that’s why I wasn’t feeling well.  Well, we can’t have any of that anymore, can we?  So without further ado, let’s jump into what I call my mantras for 2014.

I don’t do resolutions — because I always break them or never keep them.  But a mantra — see definition below — is something I can almost beat my own drum to.  Does that make sense?

Definition of the word Mantra

1. (in Hinduism and Buddhism) a sacred word or formula repeated as an incantation.

2. any often repeated word, formula, or stock phrase; slogan.

Also, within the blogosphere, many bloggers have come up with a word for 2014 or even a song.  I’ve never done this so I decided this year I will.  So drum roll please……..

My one word for 2014 is

ACTION

(I can’t find the source for this….but it was pinned from Pinterest)

I found that in 2013, I always had the best intentions of doing this or that.  For example, putting together an  Operations Manual for Decor by Christine which has been on the back-burner for over 6 months; or updating the Portfolio section on my website — because Houzz just became so convenient for viewing it; and last, personal home decor projects that I  have been talking about for a year and have not yet completed — soooo frustrating!  And so not good! This year, it’s all about ACTION!!  The poster above says it perfectly!!

Source: http://www.pinterest.com/vaniasiles/

The song I chose – for right now….because I can guarantee it will change throughout 2014 –  is ROAR by Katy Perry.  Love the lyrics and what they stand for.  My one-person design company, Decor by Christine (DbC) is turning 5 this month….and I have been very lucky with all that I have accomplished these last 5 years – basically doing it all by my lonesome and working with some amazing clients and design colleagues.  But this year I must come out roaring and take DbC to the next level…and that includes this little old blog I affectionately call The Glam Blog.

Last week, I was reading one of my favourite new blogs called The Glitter Guide and saw this great post on 2014 resolutions that I just had to share with you.  However because I dislike the word resolutions…..we will call them 2014 mantras instead.

I can’t even say I have one favourite out of these 12 mantras….each one is equally important to me.  What I love about this list is that it really echos some of the changes I want for 2014.  And of course, there is glitter involved also! 😆

Here’s another mantra that I hope will resonate with you as much as it did with me – also from The Glitter Guide blog.

I think fear really holds me back sometimes from doing things – whether its fear from making a mistake, looking like an idiot, afraid I can’t do it or think only people younger than me can do it — I really need to just get over it….and take ACTION!

And the last mantra I want to share with you really hit home with me, probably because it links back to being fearful.  This industry — whether its being an interior designer or a design blogger can be fiercely competitive, and sometimes you cannot help comparing yourself to others.  Well that has to stop!  And that’s why the words below bring a tear to my eye as I write this.  (I have to thank Jen from Rambling Reno Blog for sharing this on her blog.)

I may not have thousands of followers on this blog — I’m lucky if I write twice a week — and that’s probably not going to change, or have clients with a million dollar budget — although I will continue to work towards that goal — I do have a wonderful close circle of family and friends who keep me same and love me as I am.  So I will start to be better than I was yesterday….for me!!!

OMG!!  I’ve hit almost 700 words…yikes.  If you lasted to this point….I thank you with all my heart.  I have some exciting things happening in the 1st quarter of 2014 that I can’t wait to share with you.  But tell me…..do you have a mantra, word or song for 2014 that resonates with you?  I would love to hear all about it…so leave me a comment — I always respond back!!

Thanks for sticking with me.  Cheers to 2014 — Out with the old — in with the NEW!!

Glamorously yours in action,

Christine xoxo

Glamour Friday: 7 things I love about this Beach Inspired Dining Room

When I look at this beach inspired dining room, I feel happy and serene.  All the different variations of blue make me think of the beach which is exactly where I want to be right now.

Here are the 7 things I love about this dining room designed by Mabley Handler.

1.  The fabulous chevron-y like fabric on the drapery & chairs by Jonathan Adler for Kravet. (Pattern: Wabash, Color: Aquamarine)

2.  The Juicy Jute Grasscloth Wallpaper in Blueberry from Phillip Jeffries.

6.  I am currently obsessed with étagères  and this one simply takes my breath away.  In silver-leaf, it is from Worlds Away.

7.  The pacific blue seeded glass table lamp from Rumrunner Home provides additional light on the buffet/bar area. I love how the designers used only one on the buffet versus two.  I’m a big fan of symmetry but in this case one lamp works.

I thought I would keep my list to seven, but I also love the coffered ceilings and all the tabletop dishware.  Do you love this beach inspired dining room as much as I do?  What are some of the top decor items or furnishings that you would add to this list? Glamour Friday: Purple Passion

I love anything purple and when I saw this stunning purple bedroom designed by Annsley McAleer of Annsley Interiors, I was instantly hooked!

image

Everything about this room is a Glam Slam!  From the floral headboard, to its curvy sexy shape and the solid purple banding that give it that extra oomph!!  Love the fabric of the long bolster cushion with the hits of gold and orange.  And the beautiful gold-leaf chandelier is the perfect finishing touch….like long dangly earrings accessorizing the perfect outfit.

image

The ever-popular x-bench is a staple everyone should have in their home.  The rich details of the gold mirror above bring out the gold and orange in the fabric.  By painting the legs purple this traditional looking bench now has a glamorous edge to it.  I think it is absolutely perfect!

image

And then…..these chairs…Oh la la!!! I think I’ve died and gone to heaven!  I’ve been trying to find out the name of this style of chair so if you know what this chair is called please let me know.  Are they not stunning or what?  The purple stripe detailing and piping give it that glam chic look I love!!  And any mirrored furniture is definitely a friend of mine!

So what do you think?  Are you in love with this bedroom as much as I am?  Would you have these chairs in your home?  I know I would!!

If you are looking to glamorize your bedroom with some purple touches, then send me a message through email, Facebook or Twitter!  I would love to help!

Glamour Friday: Jamie Herzlinger

In the latest issue of Dabble Magazine, a gorgeous Arizona home designed by one of my favourite interior designers, Jamie Herzlinger is featured.  And because it is so glamorous, I thought it would be perfect for a Glamour Friday post.

This living room is so glamorous with all the sumptuous velvets and silks in this room.  And you can never go wrong with decorating in unforgettable plums and purples mixed in with neutral greys. Oh so very elegant!! Love it!

Fullscreen capture 03032012 115609 AM

The master bedroom is very calm and serene decorated in a neutral palette mixed with lots of whites.  I guess the lesson here is that it’s ok to put the bed against a wall of windows when it’s the only way to ensure that the bed remains the focal point of the room.

This sitting area goes extra glam with nail head detail on the chair and ottoman, a large mirror and lots of gold and brass accents.

This home designed by Jamie Herzlinger is truly a luxe retreat!
