Decorate As You Dress: Spring 2013 Decorating Trends

It’s finally starting to feel like spring, so if you haven’t started your spring decorating than now is the time to start.   And what better way to do that then to start with the fashion runways.  I’ve identified 5 key decorating trends that you can take into your home this season but it’s so much more fun when we add a fashion mix to it.  I went onto one of my favourite websites called Fashion + Decor and found fashion & room pairings to match my recommended spring 2013 trends.  So let’s get started:

1. Bold Colour

Stella McCartney Spring 2013 RTW and House to Home

Just by adding some emerald green (Pantone‘s 2013 colour of the year) into your wardrobe and home will totally put you on trend this season.  If green isn’t your colour then any other bright colour will do.  Promise.

Elie Saab Spring 2013 RTW and High Point Market

Chanel Spring 2013 RTW and House Beautiful

Alice + Olivia Spring 2013 RTW and Elle Decor

Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2013 RTW and Design Legacy

2. Florals

Every year it seems like florals are on trend for spring…..and why not, flowers to me scream spring time.  Its the interpretation that may be different each year.  Depending on your personality you can go big and bold with florals – like the wallpapers below or the floral sofa…..or as discreetly as you want with just a few toss cushions on your favourite neutral sofa or fresh flowers in a beautiful vase.  Anyway you like it…..just add some florals!!

Chanel Spring 2013 RTW and Lonny Magazine

Alice + Olivia Spring 2013 RTW and Elle Decor

Marc Jacobs Spring 2013 RTW and Jeffrey Alan Marks

Peter Som Spring 2013 RTW and Architectural Digest

3.  Black & White

Anything black & white is so hot right now….whether its colour blocking, stripes, polka dots….in your closet and in your home!!

Peter Som Spring 2013 RTW and Architectural Digest

Marc Jacobs Spring 2013 RTW and High Point Market

Chanel Spring 2013 RTW and High Point Market

Celine Resort 2013 and Elle Decor

Louis Vuitton Spring 2013 RTW and Elle Decor

4.  Plenty of Pattern

If you love pattern, then this is your lucky season because pattern is every where — whether subtle or in your face…its here to stay! Oh, and don’t be afraid to mix up your patterns – the more the merrier.

Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2013 RTW and Design Legacy

Giambattista Valli Spring 2013 Couture and Lonny Magazine

Marc Jacobs Spring 2013 RTW and Elle Decor

Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2013 RTW and Lonny Magazine

Billy Reid Spring 2013 RTW and Elle Decor

5.  Gold Rush

Want to raise the glam factor in your wardrobe and your home?   Then just add GOLD!!  Whether it is shiny or matte….the value of gold has just gone up!!

Zuhair Murad Spring 2013 Couture and Kelly Wearstler

Carolina Herrera Spring 2013 RTW and Decor Pad

Jenny Packham Spring 2013 RTW & Theodore Alexander

Burberry Prorsum Spring 2013 RTW and Elle Decor

Rachel Zoe Resort 2013 and Lonny Magazine

And just because I can, I had to include a dash of leopard print.  Every home should have at least one piece of animal print and this glamorous room just reflects my feelings on this matter.  So gorgeous!!!  It really does make me swoon!!

Peter Som Spring 2013 and Paper City Magazine

If you love the clothes in your closet then why shouldn’t that style or colour be reflected in your home? If you’ve got great style…so should your home!”    If you are having difficulty figuring out your style, then please contact me here for a 2 hour consultation so we can get you started.  Have a wonderful day!

Glamour Friday: Purple Passion

I love anything purple and when I saw this stunning purple bedroom designed by Annsley McAleer of Annsley Interiors, I was instantly hooked!

image

Everything about this room is a Glam Slam!  From the floral headboard, to its curvy sexy shape and the solid purple banding that give it that extra oomph!!  Love the fabric of the long bolster cushion with the hits of gold and orange.  And the beautiful gold-leaf chandelier is the perfect finishing touch….like long dangly earrings accessorizing the perfect outfit.

image

The ever-popular x-bench is a staple everyone should have in their home.  The rich details of the gold mirror above bring out the gold and orange in the fabric.  By painting the legs purple this traditional looking bench now has a glamorous edge to it.  I think it is absolutely perfect!

image

And then…..these chairs…Oh la la!!! I think I’ve died and gone to heaven!  I’ve been trying to find out the name of this style of chair so if you know what this chair is called please let me know.  Are they not stunning or what?  The purple stripe detailing and piping give it that glam chic look I love!!  And any mirrored furniture is definitely a friend of mine!

So what do you think?  Are you in love with this bedroom as much as I am?  Would you have these chairs in your home?  I know I would!!

If you are looking to glamorize your bedroom with some purple touches, then send me a message through email, Facebook or Twitter!  I would love to help!

Glamour Friday: Bathroom Bling!!

If you know me pretty well, than you know how much I love my bling!! Whether it’s a huge cocktail ring on my finger or a sparkly chandelier, everyone needs some bling in their life!!

Well how about a whole lotta bling  in the bathroom – like this Swarovski crystal studded toilet!!  Jemal Wright is the designer who describes this as “the epitome of bathroom couture”.  And it’s only priced at a mere $75,000.00!! Surprised smile

Seriously who buys this stuff??  But apparently there IS a market for over-the-top luxurious items like this blinged out toilet. I am totally into the glam factor in my home….but would I take it this far – hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm???

Don’t think you will find this one at your local Home Depot!!

Lee Ann’s Kitchen Reno: Part 2 — The Design

Well, it’s time for another update on Lee Ann’s 80’s kitchen reno.  If you missed seeing what it looks like than click here for the recap.

Here’s a list of the priorities for Lee Ann’s kitchen:

Lee Ann's Kitchen reno list of requirements-1Now

While creating the design I had to keep these priorities in mind. So here is the design plan I created that Lee Ann approved!!  Since the kitchen is small we couldn’t really change the footprint of the space so placement of appliances were staying put.  However we did centre the stove in between 2 pot drawers that Lee Ann badly needed.

Lee Ann Stranges4

I also added in a full height pantry for extra storage, a chef’s desk and a small bar area with wine fridge and glass enclosed cupboards for wine glasses, etc.  By utilizing the eat-in area, I was able to provide Lee Ann with lots more storage and a wonderful area where she can check her email or pay bills.

Below are some 3D and elevation drawings (supplied by my kitchen cabinet supplier) for you to get a better perspective of what the kitchen will look like after the renovation!!  I’m so excited!!

Lee Ann Stranges-1

Things are in full swing now.  Stay tuned for my next posting where I will share with you all the materials chosen for Lee Ann’s kitchen.

Glamour Friday: Poolside Cabana Love

Today I thought we would venture to the outside for some gorgeous backyard glamour.  Who wouldn’t want to head outside for a quick dip in the pool, catch some rays on the lounger with those oh so fresh looking white cushions.  And when the sun gets too hot, than we can head over to the luxurious cabana for some shade, cocktails and maybe a lovely afternoon nap. This cabana is definitely a Glam SLAM!!

Well apparently this fabulous view is owned by the utterly stunning and beautiful new parents known as Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem.  I guess it’s not big enough now that they have a little baby as it is currently on the market for $3.2MM.

Interior designer Kelly Wearstler debuts Fall fashion line

I love blogging about how fashion influences interior design and decor….and if you have been on my website than you know one of my decor philosophies is the following:

“Decorate as you dress.” Buy great, timeless pieces that have longevity and accessorize with less expensive items! Make this your design motto and you will be successful.

So imagine my surprise and utter delight upon discovering that one of the most glamorous interior designers ever, Kelly Wearstler is launching her own clothing line – coming fall 2011!!

Here’s a sneak peak:

The clothes are much like Wearstler’s interiors: elaborate, colourful, playful and – of course – glamorous.

The collection will feature clothes, jewellery and accessories and will range in price from $200 to $1,300. Have a look.  Her Fall 2011 ready to wear collection will be sold exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman, according to WWD.

A total Glam Slam!!! Kelly has also started a new blog called My Vibe My Life.  You should check it out if you are a fan of hers.

If your home is craving some Kelly glamour, then contact me online or in person!  I’d love to help!

Glamour Friday: Master Bedroom by Windsor Smith

This master bedroom was designed by Interior Designer Windsor Smith for a ShowHome in Beverley Hills, the historic Greystone Mansion sponsored by Veranda Magazine in 2008.

[Windsor+Smith.jpg]

Show House Photo by Peter Vitale

I love everything about this bedroom.  It’s opulent looking but still very simple with its neutral colour scheme.. The legs on the bed make me swoon!!  It’s Zebra print….hard to tell but it is!!

I’m not a huge fan of four poster beds but this ones makes me crave lazy Sunday mornings enjoying an elaborate breakfast for two in bed. And who doesn’t need a zebra bench….everyone should have at least one zebra print bench in their home.  Zebra = a GLAM SLAM

Ironically enough, Windsor Smith loved this bed and fabric so much, she designed it for her own bedroom.  The room below is from her L.A. home featured in House Beautiful Magazine.

This is how she described her vision: “The canopy bed covered in embroidered satin from Bergamo Fabrics creates the perfect “little jewel box” in the master bedroom.”

The Zebra bed as it is called is a Winsor Smith design – and I love it!!

1-windsor-smith-xlg

It certainly does feel like a jewel box!!

I’m loving both versions of this glamorous master bedroom!!  Are you??

Welcome to Glamour Fridays!!!

My apologies for not posting much this week but I have been crazy busy with a new client and starting work on her kitchen renovation.  I’ve also started some new home projects which I will be blogging about for the next few weeks….so I hope you come back often to catch up with what I am working on.

But today I am launching a new series on my Glam blog called “Glamour Fridays.”  Each Friday I will post a room or vignette that I think is ultra glamorous.  Hopefully theses peeks into glamorous rooms will inspire you to add some glamour into your home also.

Today’s Glamour Friday room comes from House to Home – a feminine lilac bedroom! And you know how much I love purple!!

I love how the bold colour and pattern on the wallpaper and drapery is juxtaposed by calmness of the  solid, paler fabrics and accessories.  The sleigh bed’s pale fabric is ideal for most colour schemes, so it wouldn’t need to be re-upholstered if the style of the room was changed. Clear Lucite bedside tables make the room seem more spacious and white, curvy lamps add a glamorous feel.  However, I could also have imagined mirrored end tables in place of the Lucite tables working in this glamorous bedroom.  I think this dreamy bedroom is a GLAM SLAM!

What do you think?  Could you imagine having a bedroom like this?  Leave a comment and tell me how you would add glamour into your bedroom!!  Happy Weekend!!

If your home is craving some glamour, then contact me online or in person!  I’d love to help!
Glamorously yours

Christine
