Decorate As You Dress: Spring 2013 Decorating Trends

It’s finally starting to feel like spring, so if you haven’t started your spring decorating than now is the time to start. And what better way to do that then to start with the fashion runways. I’ve identified 5 key decorating trends that you can take into your home this season but it’s so much more fun when we add a fashion mix to it. I went onto one of my favourite websites called Fashion + Decor and found fashion & room pairings to match my recommended spring 2013 trends. So let’s get started:
1. Bold Colour
Stella McCartney Spring 2013 RTW and House to Home
Just by adding some emerald green (Pantone‘s 2013 colour of the year) into your wardrobe and home will totally put you on trend this season. If green isn’t your colour then any other bright colour will do. Promise.

2. Florals
Every year it seems like florals are on trend for spring…..and why not, flowers to me scream spring time. Its the interpretation that may be different each year. Depending on your personality you can go big and bold with florals – like the wallpapers below or the floral sofa…..or as discreetly as you want with just a few toss cushions on your favourite neutral sofa or fresh flowers in a beautiful vase. Anyway you like it…..just add some florals!!

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

Hopefully it’s the former versus the latter. I’ve been having some major issues publishing blog posts through windows live writer, which I use to compose my blog posts. In addition, I’m in the process of updating some portfolio pictures in a new format into my style book but its been nothing but headache after headache. So lets just say me and my laptop have not been getting along lately.
In the short term I will try to blog from my iPad but things may look wonky sometimes. So don’t forget about The Glam Blog. I promise I will be back!

February Blahs

I don’t know about you, but I am so sick of winter! The month of February has been a horrible month for me on a personal level and I am ready to give it a fierce kick in the ass!
At the beginning of the month my dad was hospitalized with chest pains. However, after going through multiple tests lasting almost a week, it was determined that his heart and lungs were just fine. So that’s great news. The bad news: his prostrate cancer has spread to the bone in 2 areas which was causing this pain in his chest and lower back.
My dad has been fighting prostate cancer successfully for over 25 years but this latest news has really put me in a funk. I’ve been finding it very difficult to concentrate on anything. I start crying at the slightest thing and basically have been ignoring my blog because I haven’t been inspired to write about anything glamorous or beautiful for you. That is why you have only heard from me twice so far in 2013.
I really hate feeling like this because normally I am such an energetic go-getter kind of gal. So I have decided that I need to kick myself in the butt and get out of this dour mood.
From here on in, I am only going to think and write about pretty happy things. And that starts with Spring – a season of regrowth and rejuvenation. My dad needs that and so do I!!
Starting today, in my world it’s going to be spring already and that is all I am going to blog about for the next little while.

Project Pink & Orange: Homework Room Update!

I meant to post this last week but this little puppy kept me very busy last week! Meet Marilyn Monroe, our new tiny Yorkie!
Isn’t she absolutely adorable?
Anyway, last week my painter/wallpaper installer came in to work on the girls’ homework room. It is looking absolutely fabulous and I couldn’t be happier.
Here’s a sneak peek of the wallpaper and the wall colour: Raspberry Blush by Benjamin Moore.
Then I was able to “force” my husband to put together the Ikea desks and chairs I bought for each girl.
Doesn’t it look fantastic so far……the girls are ecstatic and my vision for their homework room is coming to fruition!!
Can you believe I bought these adorable little storage bins from the dollar store…..you would think they were made for the wallpaper, they accent the paper and colours perfectly.
And the FILLSTA table lamp is perfect. Although I must admit it took me a while to figure out how to put this lamp together. 
So far so good!! What’s left to do is put up shelving above the desk, create an art wall for their pictures & paintings and get going on my DIY chalkboard. So stay tuned for another update soon!!

Dabble Mag is Live & What’s Trending!!

The latest issue of Dabble Magazine went live on Thursday and its dedicated to the gorgeous city of Barcelona, one of my most favourite cities in the world.
During my trip to Barcelona, I became obsessed with Gaudi, the famous Spanish architect. In a future blog post I will share all the pictures I took of the magnificent structures he designed, including Casa Batllo and Sagrada Familia.
I highly recommend that you read this issue online and you may catch a glimpse of me on the streets of Barcelona! 
I have great memoires of visiting the Museu Picasso and riding the Hop On Hop Off Tourist Bus….highly recommend doing this if you ever visit Barcelona.
And or course, inside the fabulous pages of the new issue of Dabble is my latest What’s Trending column where I showcase the powerful colour combination of yellow and grey!!

Happy Labour Day Weekend!!

Wow, can you believe it’s September 1st already!! Hope you have great plans for this long weekend.
Of course, the family and I are at Emerald Lake trying to finish Project Bunkie. I never had a chance to update you this week so here is a sneak peak at the exterior so far!
Doesn’t it look fabulous so far? In the meantime, the girls will be doing lots of this
And I will be enjoying lots of good wine with family & friends.
Project Bunkie: Decor Inspiration Part 2

I can’t believe how fast August is flying by….and before you know it — Labour Day Weekend will be upon us!! Tick Tock, Tick Tock!! Arrrrrrrghhhhhhhh!!!!
Yes, I’m panicking because our original deadline was to have the Bunkie fully finished – inside & out – for the Aug 25th weekend….but sadly that is not happening. Sometimes you just can’t control Mother Nature – all that rain we got last week delayed our plan for staining the exterior. This past weekend we worked on the interior of the Bunkie and will work our way outside by the end of this weekend. So our little “guest cottage” will have to be unveiled over the long weekend.
In the meantime, let me show you some more great photos I found on Pinterest that is inspiring my decor theme and colour palette for the Bunkie. Photos from Sarah’s Cottage have definitely influenced my colour scheme…and really all because of the drapery in this photo.
I currently have similar striped sunbrella fabric drapery in my gazebo up at the “glamper”. I have since taken them down to be laundered and eventually hung up on the 2 windows inside the Bunkie. And voila, my colour palette has been born: Blue, lot of White, with hints of pale yellow and green! I want it to have a bit of a “vintage – beachy – glam” vibe to it. So you better believe it’s going to have a chandelier in it!
These following pictures also inspired my floor plan for this 10 x 12 space:
The main goal of getting our Bunkie was to create a little guest cottage that could comfortably sleep a family of four when friends come to visit. So having a double bed and bunk beds is a must. Similar to the Bunkie above.
Love the whole look and feel of this bunk bed with a lower double bed.
I also really like the beachy vibe I get from this cute little Bunkie.
We are installing bead board panels on the walls and will be staining it white — so it will look similar to this picture. So excited to show you the final result!!

These quilts are super fun…but unfortunately I don’t have any and neither does my mom. Hoping to find some while I scour some antique markets in the next few weeks.
And last but not least is the floor plan I created that should fit a family of 4 comfortably. I will get into more detail about the floor plan in my next blog post along with pictures of the cutest little Bunkie you ever saw!! (but I’m biased of course!)
