Equestrian Style!

In honour of the Kentucky Derby taking place today I thought I would share with you some beautiful photos of true  equestrian style!

image

image

Love this equestrian themed office….look at the legs of the desk!

image

My oldest daughter is a budding equestrian and I can see her wanting some of these gorgeous fashion accessories in the future…or maybe mommy wants that purse now!!

image

I’m incorporating  a bit of an equestrian theme to Mackenzie’s room with large photos of horses and displaying the ribbons she has won so far  – I like what they did in the picture below!!

The equestrian style is so classic….love it!

Love this entry way – and how they displayed all the ribbons in a shadow box!  Must remember this idea!!

“I’ll be floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee.”

What does this famous quote by Muhammad Ali mean to my blog post – nothing really!  I just liked it and I have definitely been a busy little bee this past month.

You know that feeling when you lose control of the hours in your day and once the kids are put to bed you have nothing left to give….well, that’s how I have been feeling lately.  And unfortunately, my lil ole Glam Blog suffers….so my apologies for the lack of blog posts this month.

So I thought I would share with you some of the client projects that has been keeping me working like a busy bee:

I’m almost finished with my Northridge Trail client.  We just finished installing some custom built-ins.  Here’s a sneak peak.

image

This is the new entertainment unit I designed for their family room — without the hardware in this pic.  I love the clean lines and the shaker style door.

And here is the new built-in foyer seat with the custom cushion. Underneath are 3 small drawers for my client’s daughters to store their hat and accessories.

image

And a close-up of the hardware – don’t you love the half-moon pulls.

image

There is also a window seat in the living room but you will have to wait for the grand reveal to see it.  I’m really excited to show you how I was able to transform my client’s first level of her home!!

Now my Palace Pier client lives in a condo and needed a lot of storage space….which is why we turned to built-ins.  Below is a sneak peak at the installation that happened last week.

image

This storage unit in the office was built to organize and store my client’s daughter’s schoolwork, crafts etc.  It’s also a perfect place to store the printer and display some books or photos on the open book shelf.

image

This is the built-in I designed for her daughter’s bedroom.  As a result, she was able to remove 2 sets of dressers in this small room, open up the space but have the exact amount of drawer space she had before.  Behind the mesh screen is a shelf for her TV and DVD player.  The Swarovski crystal knobs give it a very girly touch….love it!!

image

And last but not least, is the master bedroom wardrobe with this incredible custom detailing on the doors of the wardrobe.  Once this room is finished it is going to look so glamorous….so stay tuned!!

image

Then I was busy completing a a design plan for a client with different floor plans options of the family room.  Here is a small sampling of what I present to my clients.

Family room 1 watercolour

The Dollhouse rendering view of the room.

FR V3 angle 2

A 3-D perspective of the room from one angle.

FR V2 Technical

And a technical overview of the room.

Well, that’s a snippet of a day(s) in the life of an interior decorator – ME! Winking smile  I can’t wait to show you the professional pictures of the first 2 projects above once they are done.  Oh, and thanks for sticking with my blog!!  I should be back to a regular blog posting schedule in the next week.

Glamorously yours,

Christine xoxo

Glamour Friday: Wallpaper Obsessed!

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a fantastic March break last week.  As you know, I was down at Walt Disney World with my hubby and my two girls so this last week has been major catch up on some client projects that I am finishing up.

Today I was at Crown Wallpaper & Fabrics with a client looking at wallpaper for her powder room (one of the last rooms I am decorating for her) and so I couldn’t resist showing you some beautiful wallpapers that can make a huge difference in the look of your home!

I’m a bit biased towards Candice Olsen’s line of wallpapers since she adorns the walls of my dining room and my eldest daughter’s bedroom.  Now get ready for some wallpaper porn!!

image

This is the wallpaper my client chose for her powder room. It’s called Shadow Flowers and has the most amazing texture.  I can’t wait to show you the powder room once it if finished.image

Wallpaper are available in lovely neutral colours….where you go bold is with the pattern…but when it is tone on tone, a very glamorous, elegant look is achieved.  image

image

Or you can go wild with colour….and you know how much I love purple!!  Paired with neutral grey chairs, this living room truly becomes unforgettable!

image

So fabulous and what an easy way to create impact in your dining or living room!

image

Want to create oomph when your guests walk into your home?  Than wallpaper your foyer or entryway with dramatic wallpaper.

image

image

Of course, the bedroom is an obvious choice for wallpaper and you can go as subtle, glam or over – the-top as the pictures below show.

image

image

image

image

I’m a huge advocate of wallpapering a child’s room.  My only advice is do NOT go juvenile.  Your child is going to grow out of child-like designs…so keep that in mind when choosing the design.

This wallpaper is very pretty with the little pink bunnies….but when the little girl becomes a teenager she just may get sick of those bunnies.

image

As you may recall from this previous post, I am updating both my daughters’ bedrooms. I chose Candice Olson’s Dark Pink Mini Daisy Spot (image below) for my daughter’s bedroom when she was 6 years old.  She is now turning 10 in a few months and this wallpaper will grow with her into her teens.  Her room is almost complete and I can’t wait to show it to you here.

image

If wallpaper still intimidates you, but you are dying to try it in a room in your home, then the powder room is the perfect place to start.  It’s a small room so the investment will be minimal, you’re not in there a lot (I hope) so you won’t get sick of it and your guests will enjoy the scenery while they use the amenities.

image

image

This is my powder room.  I wanted high impact with lots of glam!  And I wanted my guests to feel like they were being wrapped in black velvet every time they stepped into this room.  Almost 4 years later, and it is still one of my favourite rooms that I have decorated.

IMG_0647

I’m also in the midst of redecorating my office and these photos definitely inspire me.

image

I’m thinking of using this pattern but in blue versus the pinky-red.  I will let you know what I decide.

image

Well,  I hope you stayed to the end of this very long post and I hope I was able to convince you to wallpaper at least one room in your home this year!  Let me know what you decide.

Glamour Friday: Jamie Herzlinger

In the latest issue of Dabble Magazine, a gorgeous Arizona home designed by one of my favourite interior designers, Jamie Herzlinger is featured.  And because it is so glamorous, I thought it would be perfect for a Glamour Friday post.

This stunning 19th century Dutch corbeille shaped canapé greets visitors when they walk into this 7000 sq. ft. home.

I love this very glamorous foyer  with neutral grass cloth covered walls, the fabulous marquetry commode and the stunning mirror above it make for a GLAM SLAM!

Fullscreen capture 03032012 115422 AM

Fullscreen capture 03032012 115428 AM

This living room is so glamorous with all the sumptuous velvets and silks in this room.  And you can never go wrong with decorating in unforgettable plums and purples mixed in with neutral greys. Oh so very elegant!! Love it!

Fullscreen capture 03032012 115609 AM

The master bedroom is very calm and serene decorated in a neutral palette mixed with lots of whites.  I guess the lesson here is that it’s ok to put the bed against a wall of windows when it’s the only way to ensure that the bed remains the focal point of the room.

Fullscreen capture 03032012 115544 AM

This sitting area goes extra glam with nail head detail on the chair and ottoman, a large mirror and lots of gold and brass accents.

This home designed by Jamie Herzlinger is truly a luxe retreat!

Christmas Rewind 2011

Wow….I can’t believe 2011 is almost over.  I shut down for a bit over the holidays to spend time with my husband and 2 daughters.  It’s not too often that the girls and I have our #1 man for a solid week….so I decided to just focus on the family!

But I did promise you a peak into my Christmas decor so here is “Christine’s Christmas Rewind”. We had a wonderful holiday with family and friends over on Christmas eve AND day!!   A bit crazy and hectic, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

My darling glamour girls in front of our white Glamour tree in the living room.

IMG_7081

IMG_7007

Every year I purchase a few new ornaments for my white glamour tree.  This year my husband bought me this gorgeous chandelier with lots of bling from a Christmas Store.  Isn’t it gorgeous!!

IMG_7009

Another chandelier ornament I got this year…..and believe it or not, I got this one at Wal-Mart.  I love mixing high and low ornaments on my tree.

IMG_7010

My white tree is always a Blue/White & Silver theme with lots of birds and diamond crystal motifs.

IMG_7011

I haven’t been into tree toppers for the last few years and instead prefer to add fullness via decorations at the top.

IMG_7012

Another new chandelier ornament I picked up this year.

IMG_7017

Diamonds are always a girl’s’ best friend!!

IMG_7018

The four of us have personalized silver ornaments on the tree each year!

IMG_7022

This is my fireplace mantle in the living room….again all glamour with lots of sparkle!

IMG_7023

Don’t you love my ice crystals….they look like diamond chips or frozen ice chips on my mantle.

IMG_7024

IMG_7028

This is my stunning 3-piece mosaic Christmas tree that greets visitors when they walk into the front foyer.  It can look blue or purple depending on the light.

IMG_7030

This is my console table in the foyer.  Unfortunately, my purple feather wreath fell off the mirror above so I just set it behind my purple decor boxes.

IMG_7033

If you look in the mirror you can see one of my 2’ foot Santa on the staircase landing.

IMG_7035

The girls love my miniature purple trees and of course, the purple Diva Deer (as we nicknamed her).  She oversees the family room purple tree!

IMG_7038

IMG_7059

And here is our purple passion Christmas tree that resides in the family room!!

IMG_7039

And of course, we all have ornaments that reflect our personalities!   Yup, that fancy shoe is mine!  Winking smile

Butterflies, birds and peacock feathers is a common theme with our decor this year.

IMG_7047

I purchased a few fun ornaments like this chevron one and the polka-dot one below!! (sorry for the blurry shots)

IMG_7050

IMG_7054

I chose orange and green accents to offset all the purple this year.

IMG_7076

IMG_7075

IMG_7059

I used lots of purple wrapping paper to pretty up the bottom of the tree.

IMG_7064

IMG_7065

We hosted 15 guests on Christmas eve and had a seafood extravaganza of lobster, crab and jumbo shrimp.   Mmmmmmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

DSC06821

My husband is the cook and I set the table….one of my most favourite things to do when we are entertaining.

DSC06820

This year all my guests took home this crystal diamond ornament used as a napkin ring.

DSC06828

Place settings are also a must!

DSC06834

One of my favourite traditions each holiday season is putting a cracker by each place setting.  Everyone wears their silly paper hats and each person has a chance to read out their funny joke to the table.  My holiday crackers are actually purple but they look blue in this picture.DSC06835

And then this is what we woke up to Christmas morning!l Open-mouthed smile

DSC06870

Hope you too had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends.  Thanks for hanging out while I did a not-so-quick Christmas rewind.

All the best heading into new year’s eve!!

Christine xoxo

Happy Glamorous Halloween!!

Saturday night I was at a Halloween party with some friends and thought I would share some pics of us in costume!

I decided to go as “Harrietta” Potter while my husband dressed as one of Lord Voldemort’s Death Eaters (insert evil laugh here)

Glamour Friday: Creating the Perfect Tablescape

One of the things that I most love as an interior decorator is creating tablescapes or vignettes for my clients whether it’s for their foyer, living room or bedroom. (FYI: I will be using the terms vignette & tablescapes interchangeably throughout this blog posting). Vignettes tell a little story about the person who lives there – whether it’s where they have travelled, hobbies they love, their favourite flower or book or just a personal item they love dearly.

However, creating a tablescape does not give you free rein to display all the knick knacks you’ve collected throughout the years at different weddings you may have attended.  As with everything in life….there are rules…well maybe “rules” is too harsh a word…so let’s use “guidelines’ in creating the “perfect” tablescape or vignette.

According to one of my favourite designers, David Jimenez, the king of tablescapes – he suggests the following:

1) Layer and lean framed photographs against the wall.

2) Keep your palette simple–black and white with one hit of color.

3) A tray makes everything richer.

4) Use a vase with a strong silhouette.

As a rule of thumb, these are the items that I like to use when creating a vignette or story for my clients: fresh flowers, books, a tray and a few ( 3 max) decorative items/accessories that mean something to the client.

So to give you an idea of what the “perfect” tablescape should look like…. feast your eyes on these vignettes created by some of my favourite interior designers David Jimenez, Jeffrey Bilhuber, and Miles Redd.

David Jimenez is not only dreamily handsome but he has a gorgeous house to boot. Look at the amazing tablescapes he created in almost every room in his house.

 clip_image004[4]

Love that huge tray on the ottoman…it helps keep all items self-contained and neat!!

clip_image006[4]

clip_image008[4]

Your bedside table shouldn’t be ignored either…trays keep everything neat and within reach!

clip_image010[4]

clip_image012[4]

Don’t count out your bathroom or dressing room for creating a beautiful vignette as the ones above!

clip_image014[4]

This last picture totally summarizes David Jimenez’s guidelines for creating the perfect tablescape!!

And now let’s see Jeffrey Bilhuber’s gorgeous tablescapes – I’ve got one of his books “Defining Luxury” in a tablescape inside my own home.

clip_image016[4] clip_image018[4]

Please tell me you are noticing a common theme here — Fresh flowers, stacked books AND NO knick knacks!!!

clip_image019[4] clip_image021[4]

Whether your home is ultra glamorous or farmhouse chic….the same guidelines apply!!!

These next 2 tablescapes are from Miles Redd who creates stunning and oh-so glam interior designs. Below are 2 of my favourite tablescapes: so simple, yet very impactful!

clip_image023[4] clip_image025[4]

And last but not least here is one of my all time favourite foyer tablescapes that I have mimicked in my own home….and yes, it’s by the one and only Kimberley Seldon!! It just screams pure luxury and glamour to me every time I see this picture!!

clip_image027[4]

Well, I think I have hammered home what the perfect tablescape looks like! If I could, I would give you all a quiz right now on what items create the “perfect” tablescape…but since I can’t…here is your homework assignment: using the guidelines discussed…create your own tablescape/vignette/story and then post it in the comment section for all of us to see!!!

Good luck!! xoxo

I’m Blogging over at WonderMoms on “How to Make an Entrance!”

Confession time!!! When I visit someone’s home for the first time, I make a point of “checking out” their foyer. Why you ask? Because a foyer is the entryway into your home….or as I like to call it – the gateway into your home decor personality!

So hurry on over to the Wondermoms website and click here to find out how you can make an entrance too!!
