Glamour Friday: 7 things I love about this Beach Inspired Dining Room

When I look at this beach inspired dining room, I feel happy and serene.  All the different variations of blue make me think of the beach which is exactly where I want to be right now.

Here are the 7 things I love about this dining room designed by Mabley Handler.

1.  The fabulous chevron-y like fabric on the drapery & chairs by Jonathan Adler for Kravet. (Pattern: Wabash, Color: Aquamarine)

2.  The Juicy Jute Grasscloth Wallpaper in Blueberry from Phillip Jeffries.

3.  The Madeline Weinrib: Haveli Cotton Flatweave Rug in Turquoise.  I have always loved her rugs and this one totally grounds the space.

4.  This absolutely stunning linen drum shade light fixture embellished with silver nailheads and Swarovski crystals. It was designed by Michelle Hatch New York, and Chad Jacobs of Bone Simple Design.

5.  Love, love, love the Dunes & Duchess 4-arm Candelabra.

6.  I am currently obsessed with étagères  and this one simply takes my breath away.  In silver-leaf, it is from Worlds Away.

7.  The pacific blue seeded glass table lamp from Rumrunner Home provides additional light on the buffet/bar area. I love how the designers used only one on the buffet versus two.  I’m a big fan of symmetry but in this case one lamp works.

I thought I would keep my list to seven, but I also love the coffered ceilings and all the tabletop dishware.  Do you love this beach inspired dining room as much as I do?  What are some of the top decor items or furnishings that you would add to this list? Glamour Friday: Wallpaper Obsessed!

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a fantastic March break last week.  As you know, I was down at Walt Disney World with my hubby and my two girls so this last week has been major catch up on some client projects that I am finishing up.

Today I was at Crown Wallpaper & Fabrics with a client looking at wallpaper for her powder room (one of the last rooms I am decorating for her) and so I couldn’t resist showing you some beautiful wallpapers that can make a huge difference in the look of your home!

I’m a bit biased towards Candice Olsen’s line of wallpapers since she adorns the walls of my dining room and my eldest daughter’s bedroom.  Now get ready for some wallpaper porn!!

image

This is the wallpaper my client chose for her powder room. It’s called Shadow Flowers and has the most amazing texture.  I can’t wait to show you the powder room once it if finished.image

Wallpaper are available in lovely neutral colours….where you go bold is with the pattern…but when it is tone on tone, a very glamorous, elegant look is achieved.  image

image

Or you can go wild with colour….and you know how much I love purple!!  Paired with neutral grey chairs, this living room truly becomes unforgettable!

image

So fabulous and what an easy way to create impact in your dining or living room!

image

Want to create oomph when your guests walk into your home?  Than wallpaper your foyer or entryway with dramatic wallpaper.

image

image

Of course, the bedroom is an obvious choice for wallpaper and you can go as subtle, glam or over – the-top as the pictures below show.

image

image

image

image

I’m a huge advocate of wallpapering a child’s room.  My only advice is do NOT go juvenile.  Your child is going to grow out of child-like designs…so keep that in mind when choosing the design.

This wallpaper is very pretty with the little pink bunnies….but when the little girl becomes a teenager she just may get sick of those bunnies.

image

As you may recall from this previous post, I am updating both my daughters’ bedrooms. I chose Candice Olson’s Dark Pink Mini Daisy Spot (image below) for my daughter’s bedroom when she was 6 years old.  She is now turning 10 in a few months and this wallpaper will grow with her into her teens.  Her room is almost complete and I can’t wait to show it to you here.

image

If wallpaper still intimidates you, but you are dying to try it in a room in your home, then the powder room is the perfect place to start.  It’s a small room so the investment will be minimal, you’re not in there a lot (I hope) so you won’t get sick of it and your guests will enjoy the scenery while they use the amenities.

image

image

This is my powder room.  I wanted high impact with lots of glam!  And I wanted my guests to feel like they were being wrapped in black velvet every time they stepped into this room.  Almost 4 years later, and it is still one of my favourite rooms that I have decorated.

IMG_0647

I’m also in the midst of redecorating my office and these photos definitely inspire me.

image

I’m thinking of using this pattern but in blue versus the pinky-red.  I will let you know what I decide.

image

Well,  I hope you stayed to the end of this very long post and I hope I was able to convince you to wallpaper at least one room in your home this year!  Let me know what you decide.

Decorate As You Dress: Tangerine Tango!!

This is the first “Decorate As You Dress” blog post of the year and I thought why not start it off with Pantone’s 2012 Colour of the year:  Tangerine Tango!!

image

“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

image

Now let’s take a look at how you can incorporate this vivacious colour into your wardrobe or home decor:

image

I absolutely adore this spring coat as much as I adore this headboard.  Now that’s the way to add some POP into your room!!

image

image

On the other hand, this kitchen is definitely over the top orange which is something I would NOT recommend doing in your home but I would definitely wear that cute orange outfit above.

image

Pops of orange like these counter stools or the dining room chairs below is a much palatable way to go with decorating your home in this hue!  And used with whites is a sure-fire way to garner positive attention.

image

Definitely much more refined looking when such a bright colour is used as more of an accent!

But if you want to stop traffic at your next gala event, then this gown is the way to go!!!  STUNNING!!

image

And just as stunning is this front door.  What a way to welcome guests to your home!

image

image

I’m actually coveting this glorious wallpaper along with these oh so glam Steve Madden shoes!!!  Be still my beating heart!!

image

In case you want to run out and paint a feature wall in this colour, Benjamin Moore has a similar colour called Tangerine Melt CC-091.

image

If I have inspired you to incorporate this wonderful colour into your home or closet, here are a few tips:

1)   This hue is magical when used as an accent against a neutral background, especially with greys!

image

2) Don’t be afraid to use in colour combinations such as blue & orange or pink & orange!

image

image

Wow, I love this glamorous girly look for my Glam Cave!!

3)  Don’t be shy about incorporating this colour into your wardrobe or home decor…start off small, then go from there!

image

Like this or like this……

image

4)  This colour is not for everyone so if it doesn’t suit your skin tone or you absolutely hate anything orange in your home, then DON”T DO IT!!  Instead try Benjamin Moore’s 2012 colour of the year: Wythe Blue (HC-143).  I’ll blog about this colour later this week.image

So tell me….are you ready to tango with the tangerine?

Christmas Rewind 2011

Wow….I can’t believe 2011 is almost over.  I shut down for a bit over the holidays to spend time with my husband and 2 daughters.  It’s not too often that the girls and I have our #1 man for a solid week….so I decided to just focus on the family!

But I did promise you a peak into my Christmas decor so here is “Christine’s Christmas Rewind”. We had a wonderful holiday with family and friends over on Christmas eve AND day!!   A bit crazy and hectic, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

DSC06654

My darling glamour girls in front of our white Glamour tree in the living room.

IMG_7081

IMG_7007

Every year I purchase a few new ornaments for my white glamour tree.  This year my husband bought me this gorgeous chandelier with lots of bling from a Christmas Store.  Isn’t it gorgeous!!

IMG_7009

Another chandelier ornament I got this year…..and believe it or not, I got this one at Wal-Mart.  I love mixing high and low ornaments on my tree.

IMG_7010

My white tree is always a Blue/White & Silver theme with lots of birds and diamond crystal motifs.

IMG_7011

I haven’t been into tree toppers for the last few years and instead prefer to add fullness via decorations at the top.

IMG_7012

Another new chandelier ornament I picked up this year.

IMG_7017

Diamonds are always a girl’s’ best friend!!

IMG_7018

The four of us have personalized silver ornaments on the tree each year!

IMG_7022

This is my fireplace mantle in the living room….again all glamour with lots of sparkle!

IMG_7023

Don’t you love my ice crystals….they look like diamond chips or frozen ice chips on my mantle.

IMG_7024

IMG_7028

This is my stunning 3-piece mosaic Christmas tree that greets visitors when they walk into the front foyer.  It can look blue or purple depending on the light.

IMG_7030

This is my console table in the foyer.  Unfortunately, my purple feather wreath fell off the mirror above so I just set it behind my purple decor boxes.

IMG_7033

If you look in the mirror you can see one of my 2’ foot Santa on the staircase landing.

IMG_7035

The girls love my miniature purple trees and of course, the purple Diva Deer (as we nicknamed her).  She oversees the family room purple tree!

IMG_7038

IMG_7059

And here is our purple passion Christmas tree that resides in the family room!!

IMG_7039

And of course, we all have ornaments that reflect our personalities!   Yup, that fancy shoe is mine!  Winking smile

IMG_7041

A Mickey Mouse keepsake from one of our Disney March Break vacations.

IMG_7044

Our eldest is a budding equestrian.

IMG_7045

Our youngest is the dancer of the family.

IMG_7042

Butterflies, birds and peacock feathers is a common theme with our decor this year.

IMG_7043

IMG_7052

IMG_7048

IMG_7072

IMG_7047

I purchased a few fun ornaments like this chevron one and the polka-dot one below!! (sorry for the blurry shots)

IMG_7050

IMG_7054

I chose orange and green accents to offset all the purple this year.

IMG_7076

IMG_7075

IMG_7059

I used lots of purple wrapping paper to pretty up the bottom of the tree.

IMG_7064

IMG_7067

IMG_7065

We hosted 15 guests on Christmas eve and had a seafood extravaganza of lobster, crab and jumbo shrimp.   Mmmmmmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

DSC06821

My husband is the cook and I set the table….one of my most favourite things to do when we are entertaining.

DSC06820

This year all my guests took home this crystal diamond ornament used as a napkin ring.

DSC06828

Place settings are also a must!

DSC06834

One of my favourite traditions each holiday season is putting a cracker by each place setting.  Everyone wears their silly paper hats and each person has a chance to read out their funny joke to the table.  My holiday crackers are actually purple but they look blue in this picture.DSC06835

And then this is what we woke up to Christmas morning!l Open-mouthed smile

DSC06870

Hope you too had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends.  Thanks for hanging out while I did a not-so-quick Christmas rewind.

All the best heading into new year’s eve!!

Christine xoxo

Christmas Inspiration Day 5: A glimpse into my Christmas decorating theme

Believe it or not, I’m still not 100% finished decorating my home even though I started at the end of November!!  And I won’t be getting my real tree until this weekend.  But in the meantime, I though I would show you how I have incorporated my Purple passion Christmas theme into my home so far!!

If you know me well, then you know how much I love wine.  So it only makes sense that my dining room table centrepiece is made out of full length wine staves from the barrel.  And its the perfect vessel to display my ornaments.

IMG_6977

IMG_6987

I’m really pleased how my purple ornaments in varying sizes along with my purple table runner look on my dining room table. It’s very dramatic and glamorous flanked by my mirrored candelabras.

IMG_6979

IMG_6980

My Lucite reindeer and snowballs are on prominent display on my sideboard, alongside my mother’s silver tea/coffee set that she gave me so it has a lot of sentimental value (BTW: it needs a good polishing)

IMG_6984

These snowballs are just Styrofoam balls with fake snow glued all over…..what an easy DIY project.  I actually found these at the Dollar Store and thought they were fabulous!!  And a great deal!!

IMG_6985

IMG_6986

On my other sideboard, I added a very glamorous mirrored tray to house my bar accessories.  Love my glittery nutcracker hidden among the martini utensils and wine decanter.

IMG_6988

My purple theme will flow into the family room with the real tree as the focal point – once my hubby chops it down this weekend.  So right now all I have decorated is the mantel and a side console table.  The fireplace is not finished because I haven’t hung the stockings yet.  I bought some really gorgeous purple peacock feathered stockings at the end of the season last year so I am looking forward to putting them up.  They will go perfectly with my purple & green peacock feathered trees.

IMG_6991

That’s a purple fur throw in the brown basket by the fireplace.

Here’s a close up of my feathered trees….aren’t they stunning???

IMG_6994

I love symmetry as you can see by the way I displayed my candle holders and trees on the mantle.  Once the room is finished I will put up new pictures so you can see the final result.

IMG_6999

And of course, we need more sparkle with my sparkly purple cones by the hearth.  Christmas is definitely the time to go overboard with lots of sparkle, glitz and glamour!!!

IMG_6992

One of the accent colours to go with my purple theme is orange and bronze…and I showcase this colour scheme with an assortment of ornaments in these colours.  I found these adorable and very glam deer and the tiny nutcracker at Bouclair.  My 2 daughters love the glittery purple deer.

IMG_6995

Here’s a better look! Have you noticed the feather theme going on here!! Feathers are very hot this season in ornaments.

IMG_6996

Next week I will show you my purple tree in all its glory, the foyer AND my white glamour tree that resides in front of the living room window for all to see!.  Yes, every year I have 2 trees!

Well I hope you enjoyed a peek into my Christmas decor, and that I was able to inspire your own Christmas decorating in some way.

Leave me a comment and tell me how you are decorating you home for Christmas this year.

Glamorously yours,

Christine xoxo
