Friday Favs – new series

Happy Friday!  I’m starting a new weekly series called Friday Favs.  I’ve been thinking about this for ages as there are so many great things I see and read throughout the week.  So every Friday I’m going to share my Friday Favs which could be about interior design, fashion, seasonal stuff…..anything goes.

Today’s post is all about fashion…..specifically about a new subscription box that I discovered, fell in love with and ordered.  And no, this is not a sales pitch…..I just love getting a box of goodies in the mail every 3 months and want to share it with you.  Rachel Zoe is a California based fashion designer and stylist to many celebrities in Hollywood.  She also has a great newsletter called the Zoe Report for update-to-date news on all the fashion trends and styles you need to know about.  And she has Box of Style.   To better explain exactly what it is…..I will quote how they describe Rachel Zoe’s Box of Style on their website:

“Imagine getting a sleek box containing over $350 worth of products hand-selected by Rachel Zoe and The Zoe Report editors delivered right to your door—sounds too good to be true, right? Consider your stars aligned, because that’s exactly what you get when you spend just $100 on a Box of Style. Bringing Rachel’s unparalleled sense of glamour to the masses, this coveted subscription box ships seasonally—that’s four times annually—and is filled with an expertly styled assortment of fashion, beauty and lifestyle obsessions that’ll keep you looking and feeling chic year-round.”

When I saw what was included in the fall Box of style, I had to order it.  This is what I got last week in the mail.  How chic is this box! I was so excited……it felt like Christmas morning!

Fall Box of Style

And what was inside made me jump for joy!  This image is from their Instagram page and summarizes the contents of the box….you can see each piece here.

box of style items

Every box has a hero item, and in the fall box of style it was this gorgeous colour blocked cape by Donni Charm.  When I saw it I had to have it……and of course everything else inside!

donni charm cape

Isn`t it gorgeous? I knew I could wear this cape throughout the cold fall and winter months.  And because there are so many fashionable ways to wear this cape, I decided to `model` 3 different looks on how to style the cape and the beautiful leather tassel cinch belt that also came in the box.  This is me pretending to be a fashion blogger 😉

Look 1:

I`m wearing the cape casually loose around the shoulders – which is how I wear it most of the time around the house.  I took the belt and used it as a choker for some added panache!

Look 1 fall box of style

They actually reposted this picture from my instagram page…how fabulous is that! LOL!

Look 2:

For an effortless look, just wrap the tassel belt around the cape…..for a very chic ensemble.

Look 3:

Here, I wrapped the cape around my neck as a cozy scarf.  Then I got my daughter to wrap the belt around my wrist as a very cool bracelet.  Perfect for chilly mornings walking my doggie.

The Winter Box of Style is getting ready to ship in December.  They showed us a sneak peek of  the hero product and it is this stunning necklace!

So that`s it……my first Friday Favs blog post.  Hope you enjoyed it.  Have a great weekend!!!!

Organizing your desktop – Office decor you need now!

Happy Friday!  I can’t believe that the month of January ends tomorrow — it just flew by!  This month at my house has been hectic.  Christmas decorations went “bye bye” on the 3rd, the girls went back to school the following week, my family room is being renovated and I started to get organized in my home office for 2015.  So let me take you through a quick timeline of my office redo project as it drives my top 12 office decor you need now for organizing your desktop.

Last fall I started redecorating my home office and its almost done.  First I got my built-in desk spray painted in Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17.  Forgive the quality of the images — these were all taken with my IPhone.

Office Desk

Then I got my office walls painted also in White Dove for a seamless look but added a feature wall in black and white stripes…..very ala Kate Spade.

Striped office wall

I did a quick Ikea Hack with the KALLAX shelving by adding doors and drawers for office organization and then added this fabulous gold lion head hardware which I also used for my build-in desk.

lion head hardware

I then got my white Eiffel chairs spraypainted gold for some additional glam. My motto is “All Gold, All the Time.”

Had Tonic Living create a window valance for me in this delicious dalmation dot fabric trimmed with hot pink ribbon — the accent colour in my new office.

office window treatment

I did a quick DIY with my corkboard and recovered it in the matching dalmation print fabric that is on my new window valance.  I also added some antique brass studs and pink ribbon that matches the valance for some added glam.

DIY corkboard

See the ugly brown corkboard from the 1st image above……well this is how it looks now!  Happy Dance!

Then I started having fun decorating my desktop.

And now I finally get to the point of today’s blog post!  Below are my top 12 favourite items to help keep you organized for 2015 and help make your desk look pretty at the same time.  And its pretty obvious that my favourites all lean towards the new colour scheme of my office – Black and white stripes, polka dots, pink and lots of gold!

April Showers…..

You know that old saying “April Showers bring May Flowers” — well I keep repeating that to myself on a daily basis to survive this gloomy rainy weather.  Which is pretty much what is happening outside on my side of the world.

So to cheer me/you up and make sure that all of us look fashionable while walking in the rain I’m posting some gorgeous umbrellas we should all have, including some beautiful umbrella stands to make your home look utterly fashionable too!

How cute is this houndstooth umbrella & matching hat from Zhush.

Love this black & white striped umbrella with a shot of my favourite pink from Kate Spade available through Indigo stores.

The iconic Zebra wallpaper from Scalamandre was translated into a very stylish umbrella which I love.  On a side note, my mouse pad is identical to this pattern. So chic!

These next 2 umbrellas are from a Toronto shop called RainDrops. I love the black bows on this one – she’s called Lolita….it is so very Chanel or even Kate Spade-like — two fashions designers I adore!

How stunning is this one – dahlia inspired!

This pretty Jonathan Adler umbrella just screams spring-time, doesn’t it?

A few years ago when I was in Portugal I brought back this one-of-a-kind umbrella stand made from a cork tree.  I love it because no one else has anything like it.

Cork umbrella stand

And all pretty umbrellas need a special spot to stand upright when not being used.  Here are some of my favourite umbrella stands you may just need to get!

How glam is this one – love all that gold!!  It’s available from Overstock and so are the next two umbrella stands.

This blue & white porcelain style is so popular now….I would get this one in a heartbeat.

I like these vintage inspired umbrella stands — looks like something you would find at an antique market but its from Overstock…..oh and Overstock now ships to Canada! YAY!

Head on over to your local Urban Barn and add some personality to your front foyer with this cute owl umbrella stand.

Or what about this cute rainboot from Z Gallerie — yea….they ship to Canada now too! #fistpump

With all this chic and glamorous rain wear and accessories, I kind of don’t mind that’s it raining right now.  Well Kinda!!  Bring on the May Flowers please!!!  Have a super day!

2.  The Juicy Jute Grasscloth Wallpaper in Blueberry from Phillip Jeffries.

Glamour Friday: How to create a Glamorous Dressing Area under $1000.00

Do you have one of these?  A blank wall in your bedroom?

This blank space once hosted a playpen.  I’m embarrassed to say that the playpen was there for over 3 1/2 years….and my youngest is now 5 years old.  It’s not like I put her in it still….I just ended up using it as a dumping ground to hang my clothes on each night.  And since I didn’t quite know what I wanted to do with this blank wall, the playpen became a fixture of my bedroom.  See, even interior decorators struggle with what to do in their own homes!

Over the summer I donated the playpen and while shopping at Homesense one afternoon I found this absolutely fabulous mirror!!  I love the ornateness of this mirror.  I have been looking for a rococo style mirror for the longest time (but wasn’t willing to spend over $1000 for one) and when I saw this one, I had to snap it up…..and of course the price was right!!!!

So now I had a vision for my blank wall.  I was going to create my own little glamorous dressing room area. And this mirror was going to be the focal point!

I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on this area since I already have a vanity in the master bedroom which I use to apply my makeup every morning.  Therefore, the objective of this dressing area was more to display pretty accessories and jewellery.

My hubby hung up the mirror & picture frames for me this week so its finally finished.  Voila, below is my fabulous and oh so glam dressing table!!!!  High style for a fashionista on a frugelista budget!

Another angle…..

I am soooo in love with my dressing table vignette. It is exactly how I envisioned it and to me, it is utterly glamorous….and totally finishes this last bit of naked space in the master bedroom.  And guess what!  It cost under $1000.00 to put this little space together. It’s a mixture of hi & low pieces.  Here is a breakdown of how I put it together.

The dressing table is from Ikea.  It’s the Malm Dressing Table and costs only $129.00!! The furry little stool to the right is from Homesense and was a steal at only $49.99.  The sheepskin fur rug on my Victoria Ghost chair is only $39.99 at Ikea.  The only piece that was over $300.00 was my Philippe Starck Victoria Ghost chair which cost approximately $365.00 4 years ago.

If a authentic Ghost Chair is still beyond your budget, luckily many stores now sell similar or`fake`ghost chairs for under $150.00.

This chic little stool is the perfect spot to display the Chanel purse my husband bought me 2 years ago in San Francisco.  Isn’t it gorgeous?? And yes, my purse is an investment piece that will one day be passed down to one of my daughters.

A dressing table is the perfect place to showcase all your pretty accessories and jewellery, and displaying them in little bowls and trays is key to keeping the table neat and tidy.

I wear Allure by Chanel perfume everyday.  So be sure to surround yourself by beautiful things that make you happy. Open-mouthed smile

I love these Kvill frames I found at Ikea also and how they continue my rococo theme on the wall beside the mirror.  And they were only $6.99 each.  I bought 8 for a really simple DIY project.

Two of my fashion icons are Coco Chanel and Marilyn Monroe!

I cut out pictures from these 2 coffee table books that I display on my ottoman in the family room.  Two of my favourite fashion designers are Louis Vuitton and of course, Coco Chanel.  photo (2)

Fashion is one of my passions that I adore so why not display something you love (other than your family) in picture frames, especially if it is going to be in your private space.

So let`s take a look at what I spent on my glamorous dressing table vignette:

A stunning look for under $800.00!! Now that`s a Glam Slam budget!!  Of course, this doesn’t include the price of all my costume jewellery and accessories….because all of that is priceless! Send a kiss

But now I have a little dilemma…and I need your input.  My good friend and fellow designer Ana from Second Wind Interiors had a bench with Lucite legs that a client changed her mind about.  If you know me well, then you know that I absolutely love anything in Lucite.  So I bought it from her today because I thought it would look fabulous in front of the dressing table.  What do you think?

photo (3)

I placed the ghost chair to the left and it actually fills that space nicely.

photo (4)

Should I keep the bench as my primary seating area as in this picture or keep my Ghost chair.  Hit the comment button below and give me your point of view!!  And this my dear readers is my glamorous dressing area on a very chic budget!!

If you are looking to give yourself a little glamorous space on a chic budget this fall, then call me at (416) 859-5082 or send me an email here so I can help!!

Have a fabulous weekend!!

Decorate As You Dress: Turquoise & Orange!!

I have loved the colour combination of orange (whether you call it tangerine, citrus or coral) and blue (turquoise & teal especially) for many years now, and it is still going strong.  So for this month’s nail colour I decided to honour my adoration for these 2 colours.

I also made my first official DIY canvas art using this fresh colour combo – highlighting another love of mine – chevron — this time last year.  And it is still in my family room on display!

In my family room I have 2 bold orange occasional chairs that I had custom made 4 years ago.  Who knew that orange would be so hot 4 yrs later!! Yay me!!  My walls are painted in Benjamin Moore’s Rain Dance colour .

Yesterday my friend Leigh-Ann Allaire was on Cityline showing her DIY outdoor cushions in this colour combo.  You can watch the episode here.

If you are thinking about adding this oh so classic colour combo into your home, then here are some ideas to get you going!

A bold orange sofa will make quite the statement in a room, especially when accented with hits of teal blue.

For the home / living rooms - orange blue Orange, blue and cream living room with simple accen

Or course orange walls will always spice up a room!

Even More Orange and Blue Rooms

This neutral living room gets its VA VA voom from the light blue walls and the orange accessories and cushions. Subtle but bang on!

Orange & Blue look great in a child’s room or a guest room. Everything about this room is so perfect!

And sometimes all it takes is just a few colourful accessories to get the ball rolling!!  It’s like adding orange or turquoise earrings to your white dress – and you have instant style!

Leave me a comment and let me know if you would introduce this colour combination into your home…..or tell me how you incorporated it into your home decor.

Hope you have a fabulous day!!

Equestrian Style!

In honour of the Kentucky Derby taking place today I thought I would share with you some beautiful photos of true  equestrian style!

Love this equestrian themed office….look at the legs of the desk!

My oldest daughter is a budding equestrian and I can see her wanting some of these gorgeous fashion accessories in the future…or maybe mommy wants that purse now!!

I’m incorporating  a bit of an equestrian theme to Mackenzie’s room with large photos of horses and displaying the ribbons she has won so far  – I like what they did in the picture below!!

The equestrian style is so classic….love it!

Love this entry way – and how they displayed all the ribbons in a shadow box!  Must remember this idea!!

This is the stunning Charlotte Casiragh, daughter to Princess Caroline of Monaco.

And here is my princess Mackenzie at her last Horse Show winning all kinds or ribbons with her pony Elmo!  Now this girl definitely has equestrian style!!

Have a great Kentucky Derby weekend!!

Glamour Friday: Purple Passion

I love anything purple and when I saw this stunning purple bedroom designed by Annsley McAleer of Annsley Interiors, I was instantly hooked!

Everything about this room is a Glam Slam!  From the floral headboard, to its curvy sexy shape and the solid purple banding that give it that extra oomph!!  Love the fabric of the long bolster cushion with the hits of gold and orange.  And the beautiful gold-leaf chandelier is the perfect finishing touch….like long dangly earrings accessorizing the perfect outfit.

The ever-popular x-bench is a staple everyone should have in their home.  The rich details of the gold mirror above bring out the gold and orange in the fabric.  By painting the legs purple this traditional looking bench now has a glamorous edge to it.  I think it is absolutely perfect!

And then…..these chairs…Oh la la!!! I think I’ve died and gone to heaven!  I’ve been trying to find out the name of this style of chair so if you know what this chair is called please let me know.  Are they not stunning or what?  The purple stripe detailing and piping give it that glam chic look I love!!  And any mirrored furniture is definitely a friend of mine!

So what do you think?  Are you in love with this bedroom as much as I am?  Would you have these chairs in your home?  I know I would!!

If you are looking to glamorize your bedroom with some purple touches, then send me a message through email, Facebook or Twitter!  I would love to help!

“I’ll be floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee.”

What does this famous quote by Muhammad Ali mean to my blog post – nothing really!  I just liked it and I have definitely been a busy little bee this past month.

You know that feeling when you lose control of the hours in your day and once the kids are put to bed you have nothing left to give….well, that’s how I have been feeling lately.  And unfortunately, my lil ole Glam Blog suffers….so my apologies for the lack of blog posts this month.

So I thought I would share with you some of the client projects that has been keeping me working like a busy bee:

I’m almost finished with my Northridge Trail client.  We just finished installing some custom built-ins.  Here’s a sneak peak.

This is the new entertainment unit I designed for their family room — without the hardware in this pic.  I love the clean lines and the shaker style door.

And here is the new built-in foyer seat with the custom cushion. Underneath are 3 small drawers for my client’s daughters to store their hat and accessories.

And a close-up of the hardware – don’t you love the half-moon pulls.

There is also a window seat in the living room but you will have to wait for the grand reveal to see it.  I’m really excited to show you how I was able to transform my client’s first level of her home!!

Now my Palace Pier client lives in a condo and needed a lot of storage space….which is why we turned to built-ins.  Below is a sneak peak at the installation that happened last week.

This storage unit in the office was built to organize and store my client’s daughter’s schoolwork, crafts etc.  It’s also a perfect place to store the printer and display some books or photos on the open book shelf.

This is the built-in I designed for her daughter’s bedroom.  As a result, she was able to remove 2 sets of dressers in this small room, open up the space but have the exact amount of drawer space she had before.  Behind the mesh screen is a shelf for her TV and DVD player.  The Swarovski crystal knobs give it a very girly touch….love it!!

And last but not least, is the master bedroom wardrobe with this incredible custom detailing on the doors of the wardrobe.  Once this room is finished it is going to look so glamorous….so stay tuned!!

Then I was busy completing a a design plan for a client with different floor plans options of the family room.  Here is a small sampling of what I present to my clients.

Family room 1 watercolour

The Dollhouse rendering view of the room.

FR V3 angle 2

A 3-D perspective of the room from one angle.

FR V2 Technical

And a technical overview of the room.

Well, that’s a snippet of a day(s) in the life of an interior decorator – ME! Winking smile  I can’t wait to show you the professional pictures of the first 2 projects above once they are done.  Oh, and thanks for sticking with my blog!!  I should be back to a regular blog posting schedule in the next week.

Glamorously yours,

Christine xoxo
