Blissdom Canada 2010…here I come!!!

Sorry, but no blog post on Interior Design and Decor today.  Instead, I wanted to let you know that this is where I will be on Thursday & Friday October 28th & 29th!!!

Blissdom Canada is Canada’s first social media conference for women, by women; it’s a celebration of how, why, and in what ways women use the Internet and other virtual tools to achieve and hold on to their bliss. Speakers and attendees will come together to teach, learn and inspire each other.

Women from across North America will gather to discuss what it means to be a Canadian woman networking, publishing and pursuing both business and pleasure in a borderless online world. All this, and plenty of opportunity for fun, frolic and friendship, under the bright red maple leaves of autumn in Canada’s largest city.

BlissDom Canada

I will be back by the weekend with a new halloween post…full of glamorous halloween decorating!!

If your home is craving some glamour, then contact me online or in person!  I’d love to help!

Today I’m a guest over at Staci Edwards Blog!!

I’m so excited to be guest blogging today on Staci Edward’s blog for her new feature called “Favourite Interior Tuesdays.”  And I can’t wait to share with you my favourite interior designed by Melissa Warner from Massucco Warner Miller, a design trio of friends.

Her West Hollywood apartment was featured in House Beautiful magazine earlier this year and I absolutely love it because it is so GLAM….or as I like to say, it is a “Glam Slam” in interior design.  If I was single and living on my own this is just the style – modern and glamorous – that I would want for my apartment.

So please go take a look at:  Staci Edwards’ Blog

GlamaMama hangin’ with Steven & Chris

That’s right….I’ve become a Design Show groupie…..attending the taping of different design shows as an audience member!!  Last month it was the Nate Berkus Show and this month it was the Steven and Chris design show….good Canadian boys!! :-)   What can I say….I love my Design Shows!!

The audience consisted of various Design, Lifestyle and Mommy Bloggers..a great audience made up of all women except for 1 token male screaming and applauding for one of the cutest gay design couples in Canada!!

Check us all out at the taping of the show on October 19th, 2010

Apparently Chris is not a DIYer (like me) so he stayed backstage while Steven showcased his DIY segment — How to create two beautiful and rich looking memento frames  – easy and inexpensive to create!  Here is the end result!!

Jenny McCarthy was their special guest — gorgeous and oh so skinny!!  She talked about her new book “Love, Lust & Faking It: The Naked Truth About Sex, Lies, and True Romance”.   Sounds like there are quite a few naughty bits in this book….so I MUST read it!!

Chef Rodney Bowers made his infamous Pulled Pork on air….and let me tell you….it was delish.  How do I know it was delish?  Well, after the show, the producers put together a luncheon for all the bloggers with Steven and Chris.  That was a nice surprise.  Click here to get the recipe for Rodney’s Pulled Pork sandwich….look how good it looked!!

P.S.  My name wasn’t on the original Steven and Chris invite list that went out to the blogger attendees so I was a guest of  my friend Tamara from Wonder Moms.  That is why my blog isn’t on the blogger list outlined on their website.  Hopefully they add it on. :-)

Hottest Ticket in Town!!!

I'm speaking at the ShesConnected Conference

Apparently I received one of the hottest tickets in town right now — an invitation to attend the ShesConnected conference being held on October 20th in downtown Toronto!!  Do I really think that I’m one of the most connected women in Canada — not really — but they saw something in my profile to choose me as one of their invitees so I’ll accept the “label” as your representative at this conference.  :-)

What’s it all about:  ShesConnected is a full day, hands-on conference and workshop to connect top brands with Canada’s most influential and powerful digital women.  Brands are sponsoring this event so that selected digital women attend for free. In exchange, digital women attending will gain insights on how to best work with brands and get connected with other great women.  Sounds pretty good to me!!!

The irony is that I am a former brand marketer that marketed quite a few #1 consumer brands in Canada during my 10 year career in consumer packaged good marketing.  In my previous life as a Sr. Brand Manager I would have been one of the brand representatives vying for the attention of these digitally savvy women  so I could learn how to connect with them and get them talking about my brand.

Next week, I will be on the other side of the table watching and listening with great interest in how these 10 brands want to build a relationship with me and all these other connected women.  Because truly, women are a force to be reckoned with in the marketing world – and one of the obvious reasons is that women control 80% of the consumer dollars spent!!  WOW!!

Marketing will always be in my blood…everyday I’m performing some form of marketing or another for my own interior decorating & design company…except this time there is a huge difference….I AM THE BRAND!!

So whether you market a product or you yourself  are the brand, there will be much to learn from this shesconnected conference and I can’t wait to share it with you next week!

If you’re looking to add some glamour & style into your home, then contact me online or in person.

Happy Thanksgiving — What I’m thankful for this year!

happy-thanksgiving

It’s the Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday, October 11th..and you know what that means….lots of turkey, family around the table and time to contemplate what I am thankful for this year!!

So here is my list of what I am thankful for this year!!!

1)  The love of my family and friends:

Thank you to my wonderful husband who continues to support me in my continuing adventure of being a sole entrepreneur in the interior design world!!   Thank you to my 2 beautiful little girls who always make me laugh and keep me feeling like I’m 29!!!  Thank you to my inner circle of friends who constantly support me through personal and professional endeavours!!

2)  The power of Social Media — without it, many of the opportunities I have experienced so far this year would not have happened:

Twitter:  Thank you for allowing me to ‘meet’ some of the most fascinating people from all over the globe and make it feel like I am having a cup of coffee in the same room with them.  Thank you for introducing me to a group of local women (you know who you are) who continuously empower & support each other to grow as women and help grow their respective businesses.  Thank you for introducing me to a world of interior design bloggers — my education in the design industry is never-ending and I love it!!

Facebook:  Thank you for allowing me to stay in touch with friends from my past that I don’t see anymore and allowing me to meet new friends with common interests!

3)  Thanks to my clients who invited me into their homes and constantly inspire me to create beautiful interiors for their homes and businesses.

4) And last, and this may sound weird, but I want to thank “Courage.”  Without courage, I wouldn’t have started my own interior decorating company or started writing a blog this past summer or contemplated launching my own online interior decorating show.  Starting a second career is scary but “Courage” helped me get through that scary phase and now I am having a blast!!!

5)  And a special thank you for reading my blog!!

I hope you and your family have a wonderful thanksgiving!!!  xoxo

Thanksgiving Fall Harvest

My Date with Nate…oh, and 100 or so Design Bloggers

I decided to hold off on publishing by blog posting highlighting my date with Nate Berkus and 100+ Design Bloggers on September 21st until the actual show aired….and here it is…airing on Monday, October 4th!!!  So let’s revisit that fun-filled day!!!

img_3312

As many of you know…and if you are on Twitter, then I’m sure you couldn’t help but read all the design blogs describing their day on The Nate Berkus Show as an audience member –  this great day was the brainchild of Janet & Joy from The Moggit Girls and Julieann of  Create Girl…so my hats off to you ladies!!

So as quickly as those show invites to be audience members were sent out…(we only had one week’s notice) that’s how quick Vanessa Francis (from Decor Happy Blog) and I booked our flights and hotel to NYC!!!  Like Hello???…who would give up a chance to see Nate Berkus live AND finally meet all these wonderful design bloggers that we spend endless hours tweeting with!!  :-)   Not me!!!

Just call me a Happy Go Lucky kinda gal…..yea that’s me…Sept 21st, at 5am in the morning..at the airport with my Venti Skinny Vanilla Latte…which I desperately needed at that moment!!

036-copy

Then in a New York minute, Vanessa and I were all fancied up and ready to meet a bunch of the Design Bloggers at the Bouchon Bakery.  Upon arrival, it was magical…I recognized so many “famous” faces from their Twitter avatar….AND I finally got to meet a bunch of Canadian bloggers that are also on Twitter…aren’t we a pretty group of Good Canadian Girls!!

img_3291

Vanessa, Sarah (@lovelaughshop), Michelle (hollyandgill), Kerry (firsttimefancy), Me and Lisa (@designspotting)

And here are a few more design bloggers all happy to finally be meeting one another…

bouchon-meetup

On route to the CBS studios, Vanessa and I hooked up with one super lady from NYC…Tamara from nestnestnest who smartly recommended that we take a cab…and after some frantic waving and bit of skirt hiking (just kidding) we zoomed off.  And this is what we encountered…throes and throes of design bloggers all lined up eagerly waiting to see the Nate and his hair!!

nate-lineup

I’ve got my ticket, I’ve got my ticket!!!!  How excited was I???

img_3293

And I just had to get a picture with the Moggit Girls….Joy and Janet.  Believe it or not, it was our first time meeting — even though they too are good Canadian girls..and we’ve tweeted so often it felt like I had known them for years!!  Can you tell that leopard is hot for fall this year!!!!

lisa-1

Upon entering the CBS studios, we were guided into the Green Room…although it looked kinda beige and after staring at those walls for almost 2 hours a few of us were ready to scream!  But at least we were able to meet and chat with  more design bloggers!!

green-room

Vanessa, Rachel (labellabungalow), Me and Roslyn (rarooms) — top right picture

At around 3pm, we were finally ushered into the studio and the Canucks made a mad rush for front row centre seats in the main section…and there we preened while we were coached on how to clap enthusiastically for the arrival of Nate Berkus!!!  In this picture (far right) is our honorary Canuck for the day, Chanee from melongings, another fabulous woman that I do not want to lose touch with!!

lisa-12

Since you will be watching the show today I won’t get into the details but watch for a few glimpses of a leopard print jacket…tee hee!!  Oh and at one point Nate was addressing an audience question right in front of us….I literally could have reached out and grabbed his butt a few hundred times…was I tempted???  YES!!  But I didn’t want to embarrass Vanessa by getting escorted out by security so I kept my hands in check!  :-)

Nate Berkus was kind enough to come out after the show and do 20 minute Q&A with us.  And yes, he does have fantastic hair…..swoon-worthy hair.  Just take a peek at these pics.

And here is his set…

Anyway, after the show we all gathered outside the studios to chat about the show…and there was certainly alot of dismay and anger.  Watch the show and you will notice that sadly, a) there is no mention that 90% of the audience is made up of design bloggers who dropped everything to attend this show taping and b) although Nate recognized the Moggit Girls and CreateGirl for planning this event, it was only during a commercial break –  not on camera!

post-show

OK, that is all I have to say about this because now I have to tell you all about the After Party!!!  So let’s go….

IMG_1790

Oh yea..check out these fierce looking chicks…that is Megan from Modern_Bird in the middle — off to hail a cab!!

The after-party was quickly organized by Camila Pavone from High Heel Foot and the good folks from the nest magazine in the VIP Cellar Lounge of the super-cool Restaurant Bar “The Collective” situated in the Meat-Packing District in NYC.  Which was super exciting for me because I had never been to the meat-packing district with all its trendy restaurants.  The decor of the Collective was very hip and super cool!  Take a look below!!

Vanessa and I also got a chance to meet the uber-talented ladies of Rue Magazine, Crystal Gentilello and Anne Sage. You really should go online and check out their premiere issue of Rue…it’s a stunning online magazine!!

During dinner, I had the opportunity of meeting two other design bloggers, Tammy from BG Custom Windows and Catherine from Avery Design  – dinner was a total hoot and we all got a little silly after many glasses of champagne and wine.  We also had a lot of fun teasing our sweet waiter “mohawk” / “hot chocolate” — our nicknames for him that night…and yes, I got a teensy bit sillier than the other ladies!!

  nate-16

All in all, I had a fabulous time in NYC attending the Nate Berkus Show…but in retrospect, my date was really with all  these wonderful design bloggers I met in a short span of 24 hours.  Hope we do it again next year…with or with out Nate!

xoxo GlamaMama

P.S.  Thanks to my wonderful room-mate Vanessa!!  I had a ton of fun with you!!

From Runway to Home: Going Wild for Leopard Print

Hurray…the fashion gods are telling us that Leopard Print is back for Fall 2010!!!   Well, guess what….in my book, leopard print never left!!!!   I love animal prints, especially leopard print in clothing and I have quite a few pieces in my closet to prove it!!  For me, it’s a classic style that will never just be a “trend” for one season….just like purple (but that is an entirely different future blog).   For interior design & decor, the leopard print is a bold pattern that is eye catching and both classic and contemporary depending on how you use it. It can be added to any room for a bit of animalistic style.  But just as you wouldn’t over-do it in clothing…the same rule applies for interior decor.

So let’s play a game and look at a few gorgeous pieces of leopard clothing hot off the designer runways for Fall 2010 and see how we can transpose it into home decor!

One stunning leopard coat = 4 unforgettable dining chairs…love the eclectic look of this dining room with the area rug and the funky artwork. I would definitely wear that coat to a dinner party in that dining room!!  J

I sooo, sooo, soooo want this little leopard bootie from Christian Louboutin, but that little leopard vessel sink takes my breath away.  Imagine putting this in a small chic powder room…I swear your guests would never leave!!

The 1950’s sweater look paired with this stunning leopard coat is simple but yet so sexy.  But so is this simple brown velvet settee accented with sexy leopard print cushions!!  Va-Va-Voom!!!  What a way to make a statement!

The right accessory can make or break an outfit or the look of a room.  These 2 accessories can do no wrong.  Gucci and Philippe Starck are gods in the design world.  So yes, I will take one of each please!!!

Below are a few more creative ways to make your home Glam-tastic with leopard print – all at different price points!!

But before I leave you, let’s quickly talk about the Big NO-NO when wearing or using Leopard print in your home decor….and that is OVERKILL!!        It’s ok to mix leopard with other patterns and textures…just puh-lease DON’T dress yourself or your room from head-to-toe leopard.  It’s just sooooo gauche!!

Until next time…..don’t be afraid to show your WILD side!!!  xoxo
